The baby is my best friend because he appears to believe me when I say the controller lag in Madden 26 is why I’m bad now
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
So nowhere
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Hey how is that process to revoke and reissue bitcoin going
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Wait the value of the thing in dollars is not relevant to me saying it’s only relevant because of dollars????
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
a price listed in a currency you cannot actually pay in is somewhat irrelevant, no
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
As I keep saying this argument is a bet on the collapse of the United States, which, fine! But that still is a bet premised on current relevance of the dollar
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
And the value is measured in…
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
You don’t spend the bitcoin because its value in dollars keeps going up!
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
I am saying btc’s relevance to regular people is entirely because of its value in dollars, a functional and useful currency. That’s it!
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
I have made no contention other than the obvious fact that people only care about bitcoin because of dollars!
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
And hey what are the top 10 assets measured in again
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Okay let me know when the governance process revoke btc is agreed upon
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure just let me know when all the goods and services you buy prefer to be paid for in btc
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
The only thing I keep saying is that people only care about bitcoin because of dollars! The idea that the protocol will eventually be changed to mine more coins was a response to that! And so far all your arguments require the dollar to fail
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
I fear these movies have done irredeemable damage to the first book
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Also you went from “there are no problems” back to “these problems have easy solutions” pretty fast my friend
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Right it just involves changing the code to further subdivide units which will be easy, got it
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
“Rework the code to mine more bitcoin” is easily solved, got it
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Saying there are solutions to problems for others to implement in the future does not negate the existence of the problems!
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes you have patiently argued other people can fix the problems when we are all dead
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
It would be more than a day just because of prep work but yes I would do that
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
The British Empire somewhat famously collapsed
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
So you are betting on the collapse of the United States
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
The dollar is the world’s reserve currency, so yes
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Eeeeee
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent

nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
People only care about gold because of dollars!
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Also the non dollar case for bitcoin requires the collapse of the United States which is a pretty big bet on mass death
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
He actually made the same argument

nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Also both values in that Fed chart are measured in… dollars! But you knew that
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
It doesn’t matter because all of us will be dead. And every generation dying increases the amount of loss unless btc is stored by centralized custodians which, well, you know
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
I am saying, over and over, from the very first post in this conversation, that people only care about bitcoin because of dollars. In years of conversation about it, every argument returns to its value measured in dollars.
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
And by your own admission most buying is denominated in
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
It is more probable that bitcoin goes to 0 because supply can only ever go down which will eventually make it useless. One person owning the last bitcoin is not a functional currency!
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
And the buying power is measured in
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
No answer my question: if tomorrow bitcoin falls for $0 will you still be wealthy?
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure are you still wealthy if all your bitcoin is worth $0 tomorrow
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social)
Tech companies spending hundreds of millions to hire individual AI PhDs with the revenue they collected distributing endless medical and climate science misinformation is really just something else
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure but the reality is that virtually btc transactions occur on centralized exchanges today and they will happily act like banks in exchange for the right to exist, and most people will trade absolute freedom for convenience and security just as they do with cash and banks today
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Just seeing if any of the arguments have improved since this Decoder www.theverge.com/22367951/bit...
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Maybe but that is like the ultimate example of bitcoin’s relevance being linked directly to dollars!
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh sure but the chance that btc overtakes the dollar without sophisticated financial systems in place that serve custodial and compliance functions is already 0
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes but at the end of the day the total number of btc will trend to 0 and division will have to occur so often and at such scale as to mimic the creation of new currency
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
I think you are going to find that most bank-like things behave like banks, and will comply with the gov. Just like those owners forfeited their currency
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
The government, right this second, has a strategic crypto reserve that consists of seized bitcoin!
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Think about it this way: can you create an infinite amount of usable currency out of btc by dividing it forever even as the total fixed amount goes down due to loss and abandonment?
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Go run the survey and report back
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure pay your mortgage in that
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
They will certainly have those capabilities if the government insists upon it. In fact many do now!
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Nobody cares about him. They care about numbers going up… measured in dollars
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
There isn’t a big, there is just the simple fact that people only care about it because of dollars
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Let me know when people care about it for some reason other than value in dollars!
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Except it is always denominated in dollars

Listening to a podcast where a well known tech world wannabe fascist calls journalism "nonconsensual invasion of privacy for profit" and thinks that's clever and my goodness does that reveal a lot of how completely brain wormed a bunch of these guys are once they faced a tiny bit of criticism.
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
You can infinitely divide bitcoin into many more fractional units - there were not sats at the beginning. And vastly increasing the amount of usable currency causes… inflation!
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh I’m sure they will just end up calling the wallet companies anyway
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
The real prize of using two quadrillion sats instead of dollars
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
My dude this entire thread is a reply to the most powerful person in the world being called the crypto president what on earth are you talking about
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Pretty sure people only care about it because of dollars
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
I will be and it won’t because after all this time it still has not
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Again, let me know when this happens
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
You let me know when this happens
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Okay why did you immediately tell me how many dollars it’s worth
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Sadly it’s just a store of value denominated in dollars
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
You can turn one bitcoin into 100 million sats and then increase the purchasing power of those sats to the original level of the bitcoin, sure. Now you have created vastly more currency. Pizza is real, bitcoin is just a mass delusion like all money
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
The state’s monopoly on violence famously has an important deterrence effect!
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure it is. People only care about bitcoin because it’s worth a lot of dollars!
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Notably not the question I asked
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
If you could take one pizza and cut it into two quadrillion pieces of pizza with the same caloric value you probably would be doing okay on hunger yeah
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
By arresting them
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
If each slice of pizza keeps increasing in buying power you sure do
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
I regret to inform you governments can still make payment processors follow their laws in bitcoin
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Okay so if the number of bitcoin will always go down because of loss and abandonment, and the solution is forever subdividing bitcoin to the extent there are already two quadrillion one hundred trillion satoshis… well my friend you are staring at inflation
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social)
Can anyone ever really know Aristotle
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Hey how many sats are there
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
This is just some woo woo nonsense you made up lol, you might as well be selling crystals and supplements
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
I see and the power to run all that will be paid for in…
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
The answer is infinity! And if transactions get made in sats… there will always be more sats, and inflation will occur
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
What is there to get other than it’s worth a lot of dollars and dollars buy freedom
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Every single one of those things ultimately denominated in dollars!
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
is it a good idea to spend a bitcoin, and if not, why not
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure. How many sats are there

nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Right! You can only express its value in dollars. People only care about bitcoin because of dollars!

Also: this fuckin’ guy! There is/was a huge amount of research into the number of carriers sufficient to preserve meaningful price competition… which is why Trump 1 insisted on Dish being the fourth carrier. WHAT A DUMMY
nilay patel (@reckless.bsky.social) reply parent
Dish Network promising to build a fourth network to preserve competition was a signature deal of Trump 1 industrial policy - the deal was brokered by the DOJ. And now, nothing but lost jobs and higher prices, because that is the only result of telecom mergers.
