My brother works at Equifax. He knows the credit and credit reporting business inside out. He says that locking your credit is absolutely the best thing you can do to protect yourself from identity theft. And if you need to let somebody run a credit report just temporarily unlock your credit.

On a personal note: please, everyone, make sure to print out and verify the information on your annual social security statements. Keep copies of them. No idea what DOGE is doing to our information but we have learned many times that you can’t trust them. And place freezes on all 3 credit bureaus.
