Purity tests are no way to run a country. You can be pure and fail or willing to compromise and get stuff done. He’s not going to have any policy influence.

He’s got a conviction for sexual offences, he should not be within a hundred miles of a job in a government policy influence or none
He published a photo in a newspaper. He’s not a pedophile. Try to show some level of critical thinking.
It was against the law to post a picture of a victim & he was prosecuted for it. No-one said he was a paedophile. Try reading the article.
I’m aware, that’s why I referred to it.🙄 He was convicted & I assume served his time. I’m not excusing his crimes, past employers or any personal failings, just that it’s not relevant to the new role.
Of course it is. As I said, he’s in Comms.
Comms is not newspaper editing for a moral vacuum of a newspaper.
This guy is going to be an adviser’. He couldn’t even advise himself that what he was doing was illegal & not to do it.
He’s going to be a comms director in the civil service. If you think people should never be able to work after a conviction then you’re interested in retribution, not rehabilitation
Try accepting facts.
The discussion isn’t about facts, no one is disagreeing with facts. Our difference is between pragmatism and moral outrage.
Pragmatism ??? What he did was appalling & illegal & showed a complete lack of care or respect for the victim. And Starmer wants someone like that in his team? I don’t want ‘pragmatism’, I want morals. In many jobs a criminal offence is a huge barrier. In Comms it should be a complete no-no.
I want someone to improve the Labour govt comms. He’s not on Starmer’s “team”. He’s in the civil service which has strong rules governing activity. If you judge everything on a moral purity basis then you won’t get much done. If he illegally publishes another picture I’ll admit I was wrong.
You’re wrong now, mate. Where’s your empathy for his victim? How distressing was it for them? He should have known what he did was illegal. He should never have the chance to do it again. Or should we just flush our morals down the toilet for an incompetent and/or immoral man?
We aren’t “flushing” anything your outrage is disproportionate
Wow. You really are showing your true colours. The man did something not only illegal but very distressing for the victim. He should have known what he was doing was illegal & very distressing for the victim. If he didn’t, there’s no excuse. If he did, there’s no excuse. He can get a different job.
He was convicted and paid the price for it. Of course I have empathy for the victim. But the whole point of the justice system is to resolve these things and allow people to move on afterwards, otherwise we may as well just put all criminals to death. He won’t have chance to do it again
