On Facebook, someone said they “had acute Long Covid for 3 years” and it was “terrifying” and “like living unalive” … “But we need to have a balanced perspective of LC and not generate fear in people.” Do you see anything wrong here? You get it? Do you understand what’s happening to brains? Also…

If you think Covid is “mild,” “over,” harmless to kids, or that a shot + handwash = safety… you’ve been influenced by paid minimizers. They’re everywhere, shaping the narrative. It feels conspiratorial, but it’s just PR. Bad actors; grifters too. LC is horrifying & there’s no cure. That’s the truth.

Oof, found that post and it's so very interesting. It's almost as if he's absorbed every single ounce of propaganda & absorbed it as if it is his own deeply held belief wo regard to his own personal experience. His risk/reward schema is faulty, which makes sense given that's a prefrontal cortex

Seen this before w another friend who asserted that her brain had been impacted by COVID but that she was happier now as she cared less. She recalled that the impacts to the brain were what worried her. She stated her IQ had demonstrably dropped but..she was happier. It's f'ing weird.

Yep. Ironically enough, she registered that her changes were terrifying as well. She was literally terrified & happy at the same time. Giggling. My rheumatologist went from a stoic clinician to a giggling schoolgirl as well post-COVID.

I hate the fact that others are experiencing things like this, too. Then I run into people who say that they know no one like that or with Long COVID and it's just...ugh.

The ones that make me a bit crazy are the folks who do know someone with debilitating long covid, and STILL aren't masking. Like. What.

The ones like that, I figure, are operating on the rationalizing that as being something about that person causing the Long COVID and since their own infections didn't do the same, they'll be fine. Without, ofc, realizing that the risk is cumulative.

To me it looks like AIDS. Acquired immuno-deficiency. Except instead of taking 10 years or smth to develop, you can get it right away. And it's airborne, not sexually transmitted, making it much worse than HIV. Terrifying to have minimized this for this long.

You're not the only one noticing. A while back when my son was considering applying to various unis, I got to know the admin depts of many quite well. (Europe & NA) They all asked if he had had COVID. When they learned the answer was 'no', they insisted he put that on the app. When I asked 1/2

why was that necessary? They replied that they were noticing a trend among their undergrads, an increasing inability to understand the material and increased likelihood of dropout, among those who had 'mild' COVID. So they were trying to preselect for non-COVID. IDK if that's still true. 🤷‍♀️ 2/2

Holy f*****g s**t! First, that seems a bit like a violation of privacy but… I get it. At one point, I could differentiate who had it and didn’t based on behavior and their self-disclosures (and/or cognitive data).

Yeah I was super surprised and it wasn't just one it was all of them (of course this was 22-23, so maybe things changed). And to be clear this was just an informal suggestion, not policy, but yeah still. (People tend to open up around me as well, so that may have contributed as well.)

And yeah I'm sure I'm not as accurate as you, but it does kind of leap out when you're dealing with the person, if the damage is extensive. Kinda reminds me of stroke damage a touch, has a similar vibe to me.

The fear regarding the emotion of fear is a profoundly anti-intellectual exercise. Psychologically, intense concern and anxiety regarding the reality of overwhelmingly daunting situations is necessary to fashion, quickly and appropriately, solutions and contingencies to present and future problems.
