Coercing a woman to agree to a sexually abusive scenario does not make her unreliable. But the rich, powerful, and popular will never be held to account in our justice system. Especially when the accuser is a woman.

She spent years going to court, being dragged through the mud, having people talk about her sexual history, being called a slut, people saying she should have known better, saying she deserved it, calling her a liar. Women KNOW this happens when they accuse.

Even when rape is proven it's not punished. Brock Allen Turner > 6 months in jail when he was caught raping a women behind a dumpster and pulled off her by 2 passerbys. Why? Because the judge said he had a lot of potential and a longer sentence would "have a severe impact on him".

Excellent review of the judge's decision this a.m. on CBC's The Current by legal expert. What SHOULD have been the route to acquittal was "they reasonably believed they had consent" not "her testimony was not credible or reliable". Lots of good points about the decision and the men's behaviour.

The Judge’s comments about EM “exaggerating her level of drunkenness” make me believe this decision has a high likelihood of appeal. It’s a completely biased statement.

The expert pointed out, no consideration was made for how intimidated one naked and (even partially) inebriated girl would be in a room with 10 men. I'm not sure she would have won this anyway, but the critique is off-putting for ANY woman in this kind of brutal uphill battle.

Had a suspicion they would be found not guilty when first read about it years ago. Five men, hockey players, against a woman - Canada loves its hockey.

Okay, but you should know that I do not support any physical, sexual, mental abuse of any female but I support our justice system, although not perfect, it is a system where anyone can bring forward charges against another and as long as they're "substantiated" a guilty decision is justified.

In a perfect world that would suffice, but in a perfect world men wouldn’t be murdering, raping, or abusing women and children through psychological manipulation or physical violence.

Our justice system has an awful track record when it comes to accusations of sexual assault and is why only about 6% of women come forward to press charges. It’s far from perfect.

Even in Canada white men are protected no matter the cost to victims.
