In other nations people need police to sign off on you. Psychiatrist must sign off on you. You need weeks of training in handling fire arms. Storage laws are strict and handling weapons as toys is illegal. No AR15 in walmart frozen food isles. Children are taught respect for weapons in classes.

I lived just outside Washington DC for 1 year in ‘99. I told my coworkers that I was going back to Canada & they asked me if I’d like to stay? In April 2020, a mass shooting happened in Turo Nova Scotia, Canada. Much like in Uvalde, the police response was botched. Our lawmakers sent thoughts and prayers while arranging additional gun legislation and commissions to get answers and learn from the mistakes made during those two awful days.

In 1996 there was a mass shooting in Dunblane, Scotland. Our lawmakers may or may not have sent thoughts and prayers, but they tightened up gun laws. Strangely, despite having SSRIs in UK, we haven't had another one since.

It's not hand guns that are the weapon of choice for mass shootings. It's AR's, rifles that shoot off hundreds of bullets per minute (kills more people than a single shot hand gun). The hand guns are kept for single killings-like when a black person knocks on the door in a white neighborhood-bang.

I 'debated' with a friend on the US about gun violence. They are big pro-gun and they genuinely did not think that gun related issues in the US were any worse than anywhere else. They said that us Brits had issues too because of Dunblane. Dunblane was 1996 and resulted in handguns being banned.
