They use tools and can hold a grudge and remember human faces. I feed them so they don't come for me too soon

And that is why I always make sure to compliment them (not hard to do, they're beautiful animals) and try to give off friendly vibes to them. I don't want to get on the wrong side of a corvid.

I'm almost certain the mule deer that hang around recognize me too. I'll walk down to the mailbox a block away and startle them briefly. I swear they look up from eating and go, oh, it's that guy, and go back to what they were doing.

Not only they recognize the human face but it been proven that they pass the information to their sibling. So a crow who had never see you will recognize you according to visual description made by their parents! I love them!!

I got to learn animal psychology from one of the corvid researchers during my time at UW. Crows have regional dialects and may even give each other “names” (one sound a pair may use to call to each other, for the bond rather than individual). They hold funerals for their family members too!

When I was a kid the neighbours crow used to follow me to school. He made sure I got to school. It was unsettling as a kid but no explained their intelligence. His name was Crow. 😂

They're also usually surprisingly chill otherwise. Like, if you wrong them on accident and nobody got hurt, yeah they'll be upset at you but won't do anything more. Do it on purpose though or injure/kill their young? You're a target for their entire bloodline. And they teach their kids your face!

It also works in reverse- if you're kind or even outright nurturing towards them like leaving food for them regularly or talking to them peacefully, they'll make sure their family knows it and may offer you random junk or other shiny bits
