I totally agree! That’s our financial yuck timeline too. Job changes, a move across the country, and then inflation going crazy. Maybe I’m eternally optimistic but I’m sure there’s a way out. I’m just not convinced I know what that is. I *do know* that you’re not alone. ♥️

The aforementioned pj pants are done. No matter how many I sew, turning one leg right-side-out, stuffing it into the inside-out leg and sewing the crotch seam will always be witchcraft. I understand what’s happening but it still delights and surprises me when they turn out right. Suddenly, pants!👖

I’m sewing lounging/pj pants for spouse and myself. I do this every 5-10 years as previous pairs wear too thin, rip, snag, etc. I set up a temporary table for cutting fabric and construction. Porthos likes a nap in his tube but I’d moved it to a nearby chair to make space. Found him like this:

This has really helped the three of them to not wake us quite so early. Unlike my friend’s cats who wake her at 530am, our ls let us sleep until 730. We started doing this 15 years ago with three different cats and it has mostly worked. Definitely takes a few weeks to set the new pattern though.
We feed wet food three times a day. Once in the morning, once with our own dinner time, and once again right before we go to bed. The bedtime portion is the largest and also includes their largest allotment of dry food. We’re not giving extra food, just portioned it out to favour later in the day.
I’m just thrilled that people like you have the talent and choose to share it. I couldn’t come up with a creative story of any kind even if my life depended on it. My brain isn’t wired that way. 🤓

I’m still working on being comfortable saying it. Mostly it’s getting marginally easier with practice. But I still clam up around certain people when I don’t feel safe. One day at a time, right? 😊♥️
If there aren’t dire consequences (for example, losing my job) I’ve started telling people up front that I’m autistic so they can view me and our interaction through that lens. 9 times out of 10, I’m treated with kindness and a desire to help. It’s when ppl think I’m NT that things go sideways 😬😂

I hated swimming lessons with a passion because it was sensory overload. (diagnosed decades later as autistic) That said, I learned to swim and do it well. It is an essential life skill. Right up there with knowing how to build a proper fire, hand sew basic stuff, etc.

The downsides are what’s just coming to light for a lot of people and many are surprised. Hours and hours of unpaid work are shocking to those not in the know. It is another example of corporate greed preying on employee mostly made up of women & gay men. (not all but most) It isn’t okay!

Don’t even get me started on how underpaid pilots are in small markets. Pilots for discount airlines like Allegiant have tens of thousands of dollars of debt (even more than a hundred thousand) and make minimum wage or less when they start. Lots need 2nd or 3rd jobs to survive.
Another example of a job that is grossly underpaid is radio broadcasting. APPALLING wages unless you’re the morning or drive home show in a major market. Hundreds of unpaid hours doing promotional appearances and shows because “there’s a line of people waiting to take your job”. 🤦♀️
I feel like this is victim blaming. No one mentioned it because, as I said, it’s the norm in the industry. I find it utterly appalling, of course, but the job does come with travel perks and a certain appeal. How is this different than any other job/profession that is grossly undervalued?

My spouse is a dual citizen. He grew up in California, Nevada, Utah, & Washington. He said the VAST MAJORITY of Americans don’t think of Canada at all. Period. And if they do, the only think of us in relation to their own country: as the USA’s hat. (his views are 180 degrees different than that now)
