We used Outlander as a comparison book when we were querying agents, but apropos my earlier (misguided) post, ours is not filled with hot, steamy sex. Also, we started our project long before we’d even heard of Outlander, so if it appears derivative, I’d lay blame on the collective unconscious. 😅

Ain’t that the truth. I’m thinking about writing an elevator pitch to prepare for the inevitable question and then do my best to memorise it.
Sex scenes that are integral to the story are fine. I find gratuitous sex generally boring in both books and films. In my trilogy thus far (2 books), there are only two or three actual sex scenes and a rape scene presented more obliquely than graphically. All are central in driving the plot forward.

It was my first attempt at writing a novel, so it’s not very good. I am, however, considering publishing it on Amazon as a freebie e-Book, because I do think it’s both topical (it also contains Covid-like bio terrorism) and is, in parts, very funny.
I actually wrote a novel about this many years ago. A hypochondriac is misdiagnosed by AI into thinking he’s infected with a fake disease called ASS - Abominable Snowman Syndrome. He embarks on a disastrous roadtrip intent on drinking himself to death. Great story, bad novel, 130k words unpublished.
This is mistranslated. The original Norwegian is ‘Nøkken som en hvit hest’. Here Nøkken is translated as ‘The key’, however key is ‘nøkkel’ in Norwegian. Nøkken, Nixie or Nicker in English, refer to evil shapeshifting water spirits in Germanic mythology. Here’s another ‘Nøkken’ from Kittelsen. 😉

Wow, that's quite a prize, a shoot from Goethe's own gingko. I'm very partial to them. I'm growing a couple of them myself. I first saw my future wife standing beneath a gingko in Wien, 30 years ago.

Back then there was a small hot spring next to the Uncompahgre River. We made a little thermal pool on the river bank and would sneak down there at night, skinny dip and get high. The conservative locals weren’t having any of that, so they dynamited the hot springs. Some things never change…
I lived in Ouray and Ridgeway at the end of the 70s. Absolutely magical area. Back then it was a sleepy little tourist town. I’m sure it’s gone through a major transformation since.

The first time mine bloomed I was completely taken by surprise. I didn't even know they flowered, much less only one night per year. The next morning it had withered away to nothing. Mine haven't bloomed these last years. I think it requires a special water or light regime. I need to look into it.
