The need to force everybody to be the same in thought, appearance, etc., is, in my view, a bigger threat and is the true “horror show” here. Humanity advances through differences, not sameness.
I work with autistic kids in my therapy practice. They are smart, interesting, have important insights and observations about the world. Calling autism a “horror show” as Trump recently did, is a huge disservice to families and to the contributions neurodivergent people can bring to the world.
I think a lot about how excessive anxiety, fueled by disconnection, too much screen use, and decaying community attachments is fueling the decline of democracy. Ultimately, it is about existential fear and an inability of folks to break through it.
The idea that somehow just getting rid of certain types of people will solve all of your personal problems is the ultimate politics of negligence and avoiding accountability. It is corrosive to the advancement of humanity.

The government owning stake in private companies is entirely about being able to control and dictate how they treat workers, who they hire, and where they invest. This is not freedom. This is not democracy. This is not a free market.
The only way to stop the loss of democracy at this point is for everybody to take a little short term pain in the form of a national strike.

We need to be prepared for reality that many red state voters will think a complete federal takeover of any blue city makes sense because they are told they are dangerous places 24x7 on conservative news outlets. They will think it is helpful, not destructive to American democracy.
It is not anti-American to talk bad about our government. Elected leaders are not gods. They are servants and the people are in charge.

I love reading about new clean energy and battery tech, the tech behind EVs (which are so much powerful than gas powered), solar advancements, and more. It is just insane, that with all this world changing tech, we live in a time when all this is political instead of just amazing.
The far right obsession that for them to be OK, everybody has to be, think and act just like them is a mental health problem. There, I said it.
When AI gets to the point that anybody can manipulate stocks, investments, capital for maximum gain, what is the next thing for humanity to compete and strive for?
States need to think about what succession looks like. If Trump tries to use ICE as a domestic military/coercive force and to gerrymander the census to reduce the political power of states he doesn’t like, there needs to be a response.
Conservatism no longer means small government, low taxes, and fiscal responsibility (if that ever was true). It is predominantly a white power movement.
Trump knows he isn’t popular and his polls are falling. Those uneducated ICE agents that wouldn’t qualify for your local police force, they are there to enable him to cling to power.
It is frightening to watch how some people’s need for power and control over others is disintegrating our economy, our freedom, and all the democratic systems that made America a strong place for innovation and investment.
Gerrymandering is a key weapon in the ongoing war against fascism. Dems should not blink about using it to its fullest extent. We can worry about the morality of fair districts when we don’t have to worry about whether we will have a democracy anymore.

Trump asking for interest rate reduction, in addition to being good politics, is also a big tell — he knows his policies are messing up the economy.
To pursue happiness, we need to move past fear. But we are just stuck in the mud of fear. We wallow in it. It makes us weak. It hurts our kids. It diminishes what could be really amazing about humanity.
We did this. We the people. We have let a multiverse of fears be the rallying cry for our politics. We are so focused on what we are afraid of we don’t have a clear picture of what we could be, what our potential is.
Fear. I’m tired of living in a country where politics and governing are so focused on fear (of others, of cities, of rural people, of cultures, faith, financial ruin, not being able to pay bills or buy homes or invest in college, etc) rather than opportunity and community.

When a government puts its fingers on the management decisions of private companies, universities, etc. and expects a cut/payoff/bitcoin purchase in exchange for favorable decisions, that government, by most accounts, isn’t capitalist.

All these folks who think the idea is that everybody has to be just like them need to go find a new country. This isn’t what America has ever been.
America is in the midst of a dramatic change from the ethical and moral arch of greatest generation who helped and supported others to now what could be called the most terrible era where this country promotes depravity, cruelty, hyper selfishness, and glorifies unethical behavior.
It is more expensive and more cruel. I’m not sure what political reality goes with that, but folks should stand up against it.
If Trump is going to run in 28, Dems should make it very clear that we will nominate Obama.
This is absolutely insane policy. It would be cheaper, more humane, and more restorative to just provide them with housing.
When will the media recognize the structural racism and sexism that Trump is building into all aspects of domestic and foreign policy. This is not just a vibe shift.

We need to fix the constitution and laws to enable a real democracy.
Tenants rights groups often oppose new dev due to fears of displacement -they are not wrong. It’s rare that enough inventory is created to prevent displacement since demand is so strong. But it can be done. The housing being built in Arlandria (in Alexandria, Va) right now accomplishes this.
I also think that is because tenants groups frequently want easy answers that lower or controls costs for their constituents and don’t worry much about who else needs housing. They don’t like supply side approaches because the impact for their clients isn’t as immediate.
And if you are looking for a name, the “Cincinnatus” party would be appropriate.
I just doubt either major party has the ability to secure and strengthen democratic customs and rules because a focus on long term power too often runs contrary to democratic ideals.
I would be tempted to support a new political party that focused exclusively on democracy stabilizing reforms and constitutional changes and then folded up and went away once that work was done to let new parties fight over future policy.
My primary worry, as housing affordability becomes a more common issue for politicians to focus on, is that controlling rent or subsidizing mortgages are the most politically popular answers and they don’t do anything to address the availability of housing, they just lock more people out of options.

Historically, this kind of wealth and power imbalance would lead to revolutions, the fall of empires, etc. the lack of authentic focus on building an economy that works for the masses is massively destabilizing.
The struggle establishment Dems have with Mamdani is a strong reflection of the influence of wealthy elites in the party. Both political parties are beholden to rich donors. I’m not saying both parties are the same, but I am saying they have similar structural problems.

One of the things I note when I go out is there a lot more women and groups of women going out than men. Men are just giving up.
