Glad you narrowed it down to one player. I have no problem with what Cal is doing. It's exciting and good for the game. But I love what Julio is doing since the break: a nice blend of HR and small ball. I'm just saying we more of that...not less of Cal.

It's the only way forward for any program in today's cfb world. You need an uber rich benefactor (UO for one) or a large alumni base willing to spend big $$ (Ohio State, for another). You can't find that, you'll be uninvited from the party.

It is painfully apparent that OSU is still recovering from being relegated. And that recovery is going to take a long time...if it is even possible given the dramatic reduction of resources.
Agree, a clear vision and the means to achieve it. Say what you want about UO. Knight willed that program to where it is. He wanted a winner, so he made one. It was his vision that was the driving force. Not the university AD's.
I've thought about that quite a bit. In the next round of relegation/TV contracts, I see more school's being kicked to the side. I don't hold high hopes for OSU/WSU making a leap up. Boise has had quite a bit of success in the past 20 years, and even they can't get anyone to look at them twice.
Embracing the "Little engine that could", "lunchbox U" mentality from years ago, in hindsight, was an error that cut us off at the knees.
Again, I couldn't agree more. It doesn't change the reality of where is the $$ going to come from. Grass roots fan donations isn't going make a difference. The only reason UO isn't right here with us, is they found that benefactor to position themselves for the future decades ago.
I don't disagree with you, but sadly that ship has sailed. Financially, unless we get a Phil Knight like benefactor, the best we can do is more with less and try and punch above our weight. IMO, that's going to be much harder if not impossible to do in today's CFB climate.
As a Beaver fan and alumni, it's heartbreaking to see how far we have fallen after being on the cusp of significant relevance with Smith's tenure.
