Europe knows; we are already at war. Everyone has ramped up defence spending (beneficiaries, US) after your nation installed an asset in the top seat while we have a war on our borders. Many thanks to US for destabilising the world. Nice job.

What I have noticed is an awful lot of people who aren't Jewish telling people what anti-Semitism is or isn't, despite having zero experience of it themselves. I can't think of another example of a wholesale denial and gaslighting of another minority's lived experience. Everyone's lost their minds.
Fleur (@shesellsseashells.bsky.social) reply parent
Also I don't need to adjust; like anyone else I post what I want when and where I want. Engagement for those of us with few followers is extremely low compared to other apps, whether you post frequently or not. It's a noticeable difference.
Fleur (@shesellsseashells.bsky.social) reply parent
Clearly I understand the curation is personal, but if people you follow restrict their discourse on a topic to only people they follow, any discussion will naturally be largely limited to people who agree with them. This encourages the echo chamber effect.
Fleur (@shesellsseashells.bsky.social) reply parent
I honestly don't think people understand their own lineage anymore. It's like the Australian marches. Barring First Nations people, literally every other Australian is a result of immigration & colonisation, including Britain sending its unwanteds to a far off inhospitable land (sound familiar?).
Fleur (@shesellsseashells.bsky.social) reply parent
That's true about Threads although in the beginning it was a relaxed, supportive place stuffed full of creatives, particularly photographers & artists exiled from Insta when it aggressively shifted gears into reels. I do think the overly tight curation here exacerbates the echo chamber effect.
Fleur (@shesellsseashells.bsky.social) reply parent
On X I could post & get a convo going immediately. I've been here since the first months & it's definitely improved, particularly with the US Xodus. But the weird thing here is I can post & get zero engagement- it's like you don't even exist in the algo- that makes it unlike any other SM app I use.
Fleur (@shesellsseashells.bsky.social) reply parent
It sort of feels like you're in a vast room with Speakers Corner at one end, and then a bunch of huddled cliques that you can listen to but not interact with.
Fleur (@shesellsseashells.bsky.social) reply parent
I use social media (outside of friends) like reading or watching news. Bluesky is a newspaper. TT/Insta/YT are tv. But I find vanishingly little engagement on here. I think people setting replies to only those you follow and tightly curating their followers stifles discussion & audience build.

Of course. But it is striking that people do not apply the same level of passion & anger to what's happening inside their own borders in terms of oppression & inequity for their own marginalised communities. Australia is a good case in point when it voted against a First Nations voice to parliament.

Not the only reason tho. Italy/Spain/Greece had more small boats than UK in 2024. Global instability, wars, etc. The razing of camps & enforcement at Calais where people used to get across in cars and lorries is a factor. The camps were razed in Oct 2016 so they found other methods after that.

This is putting two completely different things together to create an equivalence that doesn't even make sense. For a start one is a tv talk show host, the others are war journalists. Journalists who choose to go to a war zone know the risks they're taking. It's a vastly different scenario.

I'm curious about the numbers: how many people does the US currently want or need to deport? He says he's stepping up which echos armed forces language, so it sounds very serious. How many illegals are there in the US right now? And then after they're all deported, then what happens to this force?
Fleur (@shesellsseashells.bsky.social) reply parent
That's factually untrue. Unfortunately, the world, by objective measure, has definitely seen it before, both in recent and current history. Multiple genocides, violence to women and children, starvation of populations. There are many others.

Fleur (@shesellsseashells.bsky.social) reply parent
The Guardian has been very noticeably increasing its clickbait pieces. It's a shame to see its decline into the morass in its quest for numbers. Maybe even worse, they do it with a veneer of assumed respectability or even moral righteousness.
Fleur (@shesellsseashells.bsky.social) reply parent
That's really interesting, thank you. The differing viewpoints could also explain my confusion. I've just noticed it seems to have become interchangeable with 'Jewish' on anti-Semitic rants, but also used by people to protest they are not anti-Semitic because their hate is directed toward Zionists.🤷🏽♀️
Fleur (@shesellsseashells.bsky.social) reply parent
In the aftermath of October 7 I looked it up on Wiki to try and understand it better and there was a simple entry at the time. Now the entry is vastly changed and as there is so much disinformation and anyone can edit Wiki, i don't know what is true. Could you help explain what Zionism is and isn't?
Fleur (@shesellsseashells.bsky.social) reply parent
This is a really educative post, thank you. May I ask a question? I am very confused about the meaning of the word Zionism which seems to have been co-opted to allow people to express some horribly anti-Semitic views.
