I had VERY similar thoughts as you. This season seems to have good premises but the execution leaves them feeling a little gimmicky. Anson has played some fab roles but his portrayal as a Vulcan was very off, like a bad parody. It was my least favourite episode of the entire SNW run to be honest.
If she gets a nomination, she won't come last. She's much better on the spot than the other Iona Institute types, she is the only one who looks like she's having fun. She could sell the hard right line as aspirational more than the others. So I'd be concerned. Because she's bad news.

It’s fine. IMO this season is missing a little heart, a bit lacking on some core Trek ethos, and missing some great opportunities. But the episodes are self contained and fun/actiony enough. Not bad, not great, but fine.
