If you have space and live in the right place, I highly recommend growing sunflowers. The bees love them and when they go to seed, they attract goldfinches. A great pick me up for the soul.

As I read, I keep thinking that the book is a kind of skeleton key to understanding 20th century American culture and social structure to today. Hucksters? Fraud? Get rich quick schemes? Shallow religious and philosophical thinking? All there in the history of MLMs.

I hate the suspicion that the very existence of ChatGPT has injected into my relationship with my students. Plagiarism has always been a problem, but I didn't wonder if EVERY paper was plagiarized. It was more of a desperation move, or (less often) the sign of a very cynical student. Not baseline.
Curtis (@soccurt.bsky.social) reply parent
Occasionally, I'd run into cases where plagiarism seemed to be a skill issue (some proper, some improper citation) that you could deal with through a combination of education and maybe penalties. Even if you catch it, "Don't use AI" is just screaming into a void.
