AMOC is a climate-driven overturning current that supports northern Europe's warm climate. It's collapse would result in a colder Europe. The Gulf Stream is powered by the rotation of the Earth. For it to collapse, the planet would have to stop spinning. That, the physicists tell me, would be bad.

But we're taking about median, so they are earning more than 95% of households in the country, even as the curve steepens above them so the 1% and the 0.1% are orders of magnitudes wealthier. Agree it's is insane that we live in a country where you can be in that position and still feel the squeeze.

I'm not even sure it's for nostalgic adults, which is a pretty small market. It's trying to repeat the phenomenon - most of HPs sales were to people who don't normally buy books, and a lot of the film viewers were people who don't normally go to the cinema. I don't think that works with TV!

Some 3,300 years ago, an ancient Egyptian artist painted this humorous illustration of a cat herding geese on a flake of limestone. From Deir el-Medina, Thebes, Egypt. πŸ“· Egyptian Museum, Cairo. #Archaeology

Photo of a flake of limestone with a painted illustration of a cat herding geese. The limestone flake is displayed against a black background. On the left of the scene, a tabby cat (brown with black line markings)stands on its hind legs, facing right, holding a wooden staff in its left paw to keep the geese in order. In the other paw it holds the end of a long crook which rests on its shoulder. A bag hangs from the end of the crook behind the cat. In front of the cat are six geese all facing right, arranged in two rows, three in each row. The geese all have brown legs. Body plummage is white with black details, and three geese have black painted heads and necks; top left and right, and bottom middle geese. Above the geese at top right, is a nest filled with four white eggs. Dimensions: H 11 cm x W 11 cm.

We visited Kiruna some years back. They're moving the whole city, which is fascinating (though the locals we spoke to felt it was a bit of a propaganda boondoggle for the mining industry). It did mean the train station was in the middle of nowhere, so hopefully the town has caught up to it now.

Buried in The Observer yesterday was this: UK police knocking on doors demanding details of social media accounts of people, to pass to a foreign government, simply because they happen to live near where a US politician wanted to have a holiday observer.co.uk/news/nationa...

β€œWe have had the police knocking on every door,” said a dog walker and resident of Dean, as a helicopter buzzed overhead. β€œThey wanted the names of everybody living there and details of their social media. I know several people refused. We asked them if they were protecting us, or Vance. At least they were honest and said it is for him and that it will all be passed on to the American security people.”

A comic of two foxes, one of whom is rosy pink, the other is a peach-colour baby. Rose is looking at Peach gently, while baby Peach looks back at her with full toddler defiance. Rose: Okay sweetie, could you please get in the car for me? Peach: No. Looking sick of the situation, Rose begins to forcibly drag Peach into the car as gently as she can, while Peach fights back, dragging on the ground. Rose: Can you please not act like you are getting kidnapped. Peach: This is an insult to my autonomy! Meanwhile, Blue and Green are sitting in Blue's car, watching the situation. Rose, off-panel: There are people waiting for this parking spot. Peach, also out of view: Death before dishonour! Blue: We should just find another spot. Green: No, I want to see who wins.

Turns out Wesley mistranslated Sole as Soul, and Harmony happened to be wearing Loubotins at the key moment...

So would I, but it's hard to see how they bring any of the vampires back with the visible aging (though how funny would it be if the shanshu prophecy beneficiary was Harmony!)

Yes I assume they'll have to jettison the comics generally (part of the point of them was to do stuff too expensive for tv), though I did love Harmony as a reality star, and I think there's space to play around with vampire influencers etc.

It's almost as though scraping the intent for source data was a terrible idea, with poor quality images and no way to distinguish between facts and shitposts. Genuinely starting to wonder is bluebberries is some ship name in a k-pop fandom or something.

But are there really enough people out there writing BlueBBerries to be statistically significant in the dataset? Is it viewing letters as shapes as well? I don't understand how no one has taught the predictive text generator to count, even if actual maths is too challenging?

But the lists of countries with Ls etc make less sense to me. Presumably some of the errors come from common misspellings and ocr errors, and the fact its dataset doesn't include it's immediate output means it contradicts itself constantly.

So with the images, it does ok labeling large areas, presumably because the source data is clear and consistent, but smaller areas are increasingly nonsensical. Presumably the source images are poor quality, so the letter shapes are harder to distinguish (because it's predicting shapes, not writing)

My goto is to ask LLMs how many states have R in their name. They always fail. GPT 5 included Indiana, Illinois, and Texas in its list. It then asked me if I wanted an alphabetical highlighted map. Sure, why not.

A shitty map created by ChatGPT5. it purports to be US States with an R in their name, but it's wrong and dumb and worthless just like LLMs.

hopefully someone can help me with this… does anyone know if I can get some sort of wire/rack add on thingy for this market display unit that I could have hooks on to hang up sticker packs with?

Of course, I'm on bedtime tonight, so though there's a solid chance of a repeat chorus of pink pony club (one of Small Child's all time favourites) I may yet regret some other parts of this evening.

I am having an excellent evening, by which I mean I've had two glasses of red wine and an espresso martini, Small Child has decided daddy is her favourite this evening, and this pizza express is playing wall to wall gay bangers.

This is absolutely the key point about. When I was a programmer, I used to absolutely hate end users, because they would take my lovely software, use it in ways I hadn't thought of, and break it completely. The function of software is what users do with it, not what its creators intended.

Ryanair are the worst. And the problem with them being the worst is it always takes forever to get through check in, baggage check etc, because so many people are caught out by the fees the queues take forever. And they hold a monopoly on so many routes so there's not even an alternative!

There was a UK version, Farner Wants A Wife (2001 - predates The Bachelor as a dating reality show), and I think there are Spanish and Australian versions which ran for longer.
