We used to have state police here in California. They provided private details to sitting officers and legislators. They were subsumed by the California Highway Patrol and still provide security and support where needed. They also provide courier service here in Sac to mofficers of the legislature.

The 2Amd is a constitutional response to the irrational deployment of national guard troops from different states to patrol the streets of another state. This is not the well regulated militia contemplated by the second amendment. UCMJ Art’ 90, 91 & 92. (Former USN Legal Yeoman [1973’-77’]).
ChestertonsFence (@solonnavy.bsky.social) reply parent
Article 90 (Willfully Disobeying a Superior Commissioned Officer) and Article 91 (Insubordinate Conduct Toward a Warrant Officer, NCO, or Petty Officer) apply, but again, they pertain to lawful orders. Service members are legally and ethically obligated to refuse to carry out illegal orders.
ChestertonsFence (@solonnavy.bsky.social) reply parent
The Uniform Code of Military Justice addresses illegal orders under Article 92, which covers "Failure to Obey an Order or Regulation." It mandates service members to obey lawful orders and regulations. However, an order is considered illegal if it violates the Constitution, UCMJ, or other laws.

ChestertonsFence (@solonnavy.bsky.social) reply parent
Constitutional ir legislative changes are apply to future scenarios and not retroactively to benefit current officeholders. This helps prevents conflicts of interest where individuals in power can manipulate rules for personal gain. Many political systems have safeguards to prevent such changes.
