I've been saying for 10 years that state parties needed to learn the art of helping people to a graceful exit. They could have named a state office building after Dianne Feinstein, did a bunch of speeches about how great she'd been for California, and how much we all love her, and helped her retire.

Well, the old Walter Reed was in Washington NE. It's where I did my clinicals in Surgical Tech school. It was a straight shot up 16th or 13th. They shut it down and built a new hospital at Bethesda, MD on the Naval Medical Center and made it a Joint Base.

they might close the roads in the immediate vicinity of the hospital as a security measure. I'd want to control terrain within 500 meters of the facility, 360 degrees and keep surveillance on everything within 1000 meters on the side where the President's suite is.
soonergrunt (@soonergrunt.bsky.social) reply parent
But Google Maps shows it being a 30 minute drive (probably closer to 15 if the roads are closed and you're hauling ass) so I would assume they'd chopper him over as you suggested. This is all idle spitballing, but a boy can hope, can't he?

They have vehicles with equipment ready to go at the White House. I don't know how long it takes to get Marine One there from Andrews. Also, Secret Service could just close the roads in the immediate vicinity of the hospital as a security measure even after flying him in. I honestly don't know.

Nicholas Grossman (@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social) reposted reply parent
No, I don't think that'll solve everything. In fact, I think "that won't solve everything" is a very bad, way too common reason to not do something. I think treating obvious lies as lies, and serial bad faith as bad faith, would be better on its own. Waste less time, focus more on the real problem.
Nicholas Grossman (@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social) reposted
I have a language suggestion, which everyone can do, but is primarily for media members who value truth and Democratic politicians: Instead of asking and adjudicating if an obvious lie is false, make the fact that it's false your premise. "Why are you lying?" instead of "some say that's not true."

A vast gulf exists between Trump’s authoritarian aspirations and rightwing propaganda about his omnipotence on the one hand - and the realities of a complex modern state and society on the other. And in that space, politics continues, possibilities to resist and push back very much still exist.

Being lawless does not make Trump omnipotent – nor can he just snap his fingers and make all his authoritarian desires a reality. America is in an acutely dangerous situation. But obscuring those distinctions is an act of defeatism that only serves the regime.
