I remember when the news media would frame all economic news, no matter how actually GOOD it was as "Bad News for Biden™" Now that the economy IS in the toilet, there's not much to say about it, not even cute alliteration like "Troubled Times for Trump." #economy www.nbcnews.com/business/eco...
Nicklas Johnson (@spatula75.bsky.social) reply parent
It's almost like a prisoners' dilemma of sorts. If ALL the news media banded together and committed to reporting the news without fear of retaliation from Anusmouth, and they all left news briefings in solidarity if he tried to retaliate, there would be less risk to each outlet individually.
Nicklas Johnson (@spatula75.bsky.social) reply parent
Dismayed but not surprised, sadly. A lot of companies talk a big talk about diversity, but when you take a look what you see is a homogenized cisgender, heterosexual, white male population in many companies... which is to say, they aren't putting their money where their mouth is.
Nicklas Johnson (@spatula75.bsky.social) reply parent
And the same news media that reminded us on a daily basis that Biden was old and may be showing signs of cognitive decline can never bring themselves question the mental fitness of the Anusmouth for one second.
Nicklas Johnson (@spatula75.bsky.social) reply parent
That just sounds like some news outlet got butthurt that something of some small note happened and nobody alerted them.

Examples from today: * A glacier losing stability in a warming world * A rapidly moving interstellar object giving off light from the side facing the sun * A trail camera capturing a light source (probably other trail cameras) * Brighter-than-expected objects in the early universe etc.

For extra LOLs, search Google News for the specific word "baffled". Almost every time that word comes up it's a technology story or a story about scientists being "baffled" by something fairly mundane.

News media: Sun rises in the east, and scientists are BAFFLED! Trogs: See! Scientists don't know everything! They're no smarter than me! Scientists: *sigh*
Nicklas Johnson (@spatula75.bsky.social)
"Scientists are baffled" is such a worn-out, tiresome media trope. It's a nose-thumbing gesture to sate the trogs and is almost never actually true - even when an unusual discovery is made, there's typically some basis for it or reasonably good guesses about why it happens. #science

Even the state university I attended in the mid 1990's has seen its tuition more than quadruple since the time I graduated (in fall of 1997). What a lot of folks don't seem to grok is that the CPI is a sort of squishy "average" indicator & some components like housing & education grow MUCH faster.
Nicklas Johnson (@spatula75.bsky.social) reply parent
You can still go to college for $300 a year, right? Why do you lazy slackers think you should get loan forgiveness??
Nicklas Johnson (@spatula75.bsky.social) reply parent
Yup. They think you can "pound the pavement" looking for odd jobs and use the income to buy a $30,000 house on a half-acre. I'm not sure it ever worked that way, but in their minds this is viable.

Not that the mainstream news media can be arsed to even give his antics or braindead behavior so much as a footnote. But they always had time to tell us Biden was losing it.

"People can wear their watches again" is the new "People can say 'Merry Christmas' again." Concocting imaginary problems and then pretending to have solved them is what a wholly incompetent administration has to do to pretend it has accomplished anything good.
Nicklas Johnson (@spatula75.bsky.social)
Hey @reuters.com & @apnews.com, remember when every time Biden got a name wrong, we got an article about cognitive decline? Why is it that the current President can stagger back & forth or issue an executive order about the long-ago-litigated idea of flag burning, and we get nothing?

If you politely but assertively express a boundary to someone, and they're a functioning adult, they won't take it too personally & they'll respect your boundary in the future. If they cannot be adult about it, your relationship is likely already dysfunctional & you may be better off without it.

Can you give me a recent example of a mainstream news article question the President’s cognition in the context of his antics though? I agree, they do report on his absurd behavior, but unlike with Biden, I haven’t seen them questioning his mental acuity.

I'm morbidly fascinated by The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch, but I think that about 99% of what they've encountered can be explained by GPS interference from something local, updrafts from the nearby mesa, and radioactive decay of local mineral deposits. #HistoryChannel
