Emory Upton invents stormtrooper tactics at Spotsylvania! Grant and Sherman basically do what Moltke does in 1870 over worse infrastructure and longer distances!

I think that that the ACW is interesting because it's both forwardlooking and the reverse, tactically. Lee was a very good Napoleonic general - he's clearly looking at Ulm when doing Second Manassas. But Grant is fighting an industrialized war more like WW1.

The Showa comparisons are honestly applicable given that "the Army has fallen from the favor of the emperor, it is now the Navy's time in the limelight" is a headline

It just seems silly to say the whole ideology was a scam when the libertarian institutions are actually achieving things in defense of individual liberty in opposition to the administration; and in many ways doing so better the the explicitly liberal ones.
Sam Rutzick (@srutzick.bsky.social) reply parent
By terms of actual wins, the libertarians have achieved more in terms of stopping the administration then every maoist and marxist on this website combined.
Sam Rutzick (@srutzick.bsky.social) reply parent
Absolutely not. You know who are some of the most successful groups in terms of real wins in fighting the Administration? The libertarians. Liberty Justice Center were the ones who stopped the first set of tariffs. So has PLF. Cato has been doing amici regularly. Etc. Etc.

Even aside that, I dislike the framing that we have to care more about Japanese civilians then Chinese and Vietnamese and Filipino ones. If the bomb ended the war a week early, then it was a net positive for lives saved in ending the Japanese slave labor apparatus. In general, China in WW2 is key.

God, what a waste of amazing art. It's okay to just be a war exploitation game! The first "Nazis have magic superweapons, lets kill them" movies came out in 1946. Clearly the vets didn't mind that much! RRD didn't need all that handwringing to do a fun pun and have vampires kill the Nazis.

And everyone from then to now thought that it would go like that every time since, forgetting that only two years later the revolutionaries were ruthlessly executed. And as 1830 mostly succeeded due to the kindness of Marmont, who then died in exile... Well. Bad incentives abound.

I think that it works better with the Judy romance; Judy's whole driving theme is that Night City is a hellhole and that it makes everyone in it worse. She just wants to leave, but events keep getting in her way. Leaving with Judy with the Aldecados reinforces those two themes together.

And those are all real policy areas that deserve to be handled! But they’ve got to be transactional about it, and since Trump is a thin-skinned egomaniac, they’ve got to shut up and give them credit when occasionally he’s right. But I think that’s far from a full endorsement of everyone he does. 2/2
Sam Rutzick (@srutzick.bsky.social) reply parent
There’s a very real divide in conservative world between the Trump fanatics and the people who hope to use Trump to get their policy aims done. There’s plenty of people who really dislike the administration, and also know that the Dems won’t touch Kelo or NEPA reform or other real policy areas. 1/2

The Dispatch laid out a reasonable case; independent Greenland with a defense/trade deal and an increased subsidy from the United States would give them what they want (no more EU fishing), and what we want (military and minerals.) But the hard-right doesn't actually want that; they want conquest.

One of the things that I really like about the recent Age of Sigmar TTRPG, is that the game very explicitly goes in it's scenario design sections, "you will kill almost anything you find; the point of a fight should not just be 'kill everything.'" Hazards, doing something under fire, etc.
