Anhelina was born under russian attack in October 2022 and died from a russian attack in August 2025. She was only 2 years old when russia killed her yesterday along with her mother.
We can all do something. Collect fire extinguishers and other necessary equipment for Ukraine. Fishing nets etc. are in high demand right now, so please help Ukraine! Slava Ukraini! 🇺🇦

If Russia needs a buffer zone then that should not be a problem: Russia is the largest nation by land area, they can set up a buffer zone as big as they could ever want - on their side of the border.

The funny thing is that when a word got around in Russia that Finland and Poland were considering restoring our bogs and swamps in border regions, some of the propagandists got pretty upset about it. I wonder why..?
In Finland we have many sayings about Russians. To my knowledge none of them are good or positive. If I had to boil them down into a single sentence, it would probably be along the lines of "Russians are incompetent twisted fucks that should never be trusted". Something like that.

I do not understand what there is to negotiate. Negotiations are about give and take by all parties, but Russia only takes. The only thing Europe, Ukraine & other allies need to negotiate is a new Casablanca Agreement of 1943: unconditional surrender of Russia followed by consequences of war.

Politicians are being polite as ever, but I think quite a few Finns would agree that nothing in Russia deserves the benefit of doubt: when something shady happens, it is fair to assume that Russia is responsible, and it is up to the Russians to prove their innocence. Which they never do.

Allow me to simplify Lavrov's message: "seriously, discussing with Russia is a road nowhere". Russia negotiates in bad faith. Any negotiations are waste of time (which costs lives in Ukraine), and not a single treaty has any value: Russia breaks them all at their earliest convenience.
EU should pay more attention to what would happen to Russia's economy and society if the war ended in near future. I think it is a safe bet that many, many bad things would happen, which is why Russia simply cannot end the war. We should accept this and adjust our strategies accordingly.

Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves: it was Russia's invasion of Ukraine that finally brought Finland and Sweden to NATO. Sure, USA helped, but it is Putin that deserve our thanks 😉 Trump is Putin's sidekick/bitch, and does not deserve the honour of being Europe's unifier.

Putin does not want a ceasefire; he wants Ukraine. Negotiations are just a means of distraction for Russia while they keep on murdering Ukrainian civilians. It is time to send the Coalition of the Willing troops to Ukraine to make a proper diplomatic statement. Let's see then how negotiations go.
There has been so much talk about Ukraine that the climate is getting warmer from all the hot air. Send the Western troops to Ukraine to secure the Belarusian border and get a move on with Ukraine's EU membership. That's the commitment. It is a show of force Russia would hate, but also respect.
Even if those troops would not take part in direct combat operations, their presense would make important diplomatic statement. They could secure the Belarusian border, which would free Ukrainian units to be used elsewhere and discourage Belarus from joining the war. It is time for real action. 2/2

Was the price of peace worth paying for Finland? Yes, in the sense that we avoided occupation and Russian rule. But I would also argue that we had no other choice: we stood alone against Soviet Union. Ukraine does not stand alone, and should not capitulate unless there are no other options.
About Finland's loss of sovereignity: while Finland remained independent, we were forced into Soviet Union's sphere of influence, unable to freely chose who our allies are. Neutrality was a forced act of survival and balance.
The price for "peace" is not always worth paying. In 1944 Finland was had to sign a peace treaty with Soviet Union that forced us to give up 12% of our lands, start a war against Nazi Germany (Lapland War), we lost our sovereignity (while remaining independent), and had to pay huge war reparations.
I'm eager to see what kind of statement a 1 000 kg payload will make on Russian targets... 👊
