It’s a shame that the final cut of this movie removed so much material. And that all of it was lost so any chance for an extended or director’s cut are nil.

With no exaggeration whatsoever Cap is the best translation from comic to film that the MCU executed. It should be a low bar to cross but they’ve tripped on it too many times with other characters.

The GOP won’t do anything to stop mass shootings because they know that immediately afterwards Dems will make the same rational proposals about gun control that then allows the GOP to rile up their base with claims that the “Left is coming for your guns”. Every. Damn. Time.

I can’t critique this one too harshly because I watched it on an iPhone while flying somewhere. I do recall it being just over the top crazy and really letting Cage eat all the scenery. Can’t for the life of me remember who the big bad was or how the movie ended.

They’ve spent how many movies and Disney+ series having to deal with this? Kang was supposed to be the big bad at all of that but then that didn’t work. Now they are course correcting to Doom, but of course it isn’t just Doom. So they will spoil that as they try to fix what they broke in Endgame.

I don’t want to say they lucked into Thanos but the Infinity Stones gave them 7 McGuffins to deal with and most of them were so undefined that the writers could use them however they wanted. The biggest mistake they made was the time travel, parallel universes box they opened.

And the larger MCU narrative bits were actually integral to the plot of the film, rather than being tacked on at the end. I feel like that was something that became lost as the MCU expanded and became more interconnected.

CA:TWS will change it but in the first film Zola is just an overzealous scientist that realizes that he’s teamed up with a megalomaniac. A lot of his actions are simply defined by self preservation.

He’s absolutely right about the agenda being empathy. That’s what this current iteration of the GOP abhors the most. A populace that cares for one another, treats everyone equally and with respect. That’s what unites and the GOP knows that they can only succeed by sowing mistrust and rancor.

Well after a lot of blood, sweat, and tears our friends Steve and Brandi have moved their comic shop into its new location just in time for new comic book day. There is still a lot of work to be done but to go from empty to public ready in under a week is amazing. maps.app.goo.gl/HveVdxej9huA...

One of the things I love the most about their shop is it’s designed for all ages. There is an area just for the littles with age appropriate geeky reading materials, tables and chairs. Graphic Novels, Trade Paperbacks, Omnibuses, and Manga have their own section as well on proper bookshelves. Back issues and the new comics wall to the far left. Toys, collectibles, and Funkos to the left. An expanded service counter and register area on the far right.

Trying to conform long form sequential storytelling into a familiar Hollywood 3 act structure has a way of doing that. The villains and their motivations get painted with the broadest of strokes, just enough so we can get to the big third act showdown and feel like there is something to at stake.

A stack of comic dividers sit upon a table. The divider with a tab on the left hand side reads “Die, die, die”. The next divider with a tab on the right reads “Cyclops”.

The backstory on what they did to “translate” the series is something else. It wasn’t merely replacing the Japanese text with English. They had to completely rework the pages due to manga reading right to left and that required reworking the backgrounds and word balloons. And then adding color.

Another thank you to @notnearmint.bsky.social for the guest appearance on his stream. I’ve gotten 15 new subscribers over the weekend. Nice to see the little uptick!

This is the most ambitious crossover in history.

Reposts are far more important than Likes on BlueSky. With no real algorithm boosting posts the best thing you can do for posts you like and to help users extend their reach is to Repost/Quote Post. (Reskeeting if you will). You can even do it on your own posts.

White text on a blue background reads: BlueSky Pro Tip: Hit that Repost/Quote Post button when you are hitting Like on a post.

After sorting out my wife’s and my daughter’s books here is my haul from the sale. When books are 25 cents a piece you don’t mind taking a flier on titles you’ve never seen before. I figure it’s still cheaper than buying a trade, if you can even find one.

Mini-series madness! I’m not going to pass up Sinkevitch and Simonson covers for 25 cents a piece. And I have no idea what a Necro Series is or who Nemesis the Warlock is but all 7 issues were there and it caught my attention. Isn’t that what a comic is supposed to do?

I’m sure you all are sick of seeing these but here is the last of the 25 cent pick ups. A great Hulk cover. More Marvel trying to cash in on the zeitgeist. Again. And McFarlane drawing aliens as only Todd could.

Remember comic collecting friends, low grade is still a grade.

posting for self promotion here seems like an uphill battle (and based on likes/reposts, often screaming into the void), but hey, here's a passion project kickstarter i've got going... (and one of the only chances to get a commission any time soon)

I fancy myself a bit of a Dark Tower fan myself. Do you draw a mental line in the series labeled pre-car accident/post-cat accident?

That is what I assumed. The Blade Runner adaptation looks and reads like it was taken straight from the shooting script and storyboards.

Moving sale so a lot of overstock went straight into the dollar bins that then became 25 cent bins as part of the “Fill a short box” sale. And yes, both issues were in one bag.

I wonder if @tombrevoort.bsky.social would know the secrets behind how Marvel adaptations were put together.
