I was a single parent. My kids weren't allowed outside when I worked, they stayed inside playing video games. Not because they weren't capable of playing outside, but because I didn't want to deal with the shaming. It's brutal.

Compensation is about maintaining an appropriate workforce, not politicians or at least it shouldn't be. If they're not adequately compensated they move to the private sector, and turn over isn't efficient . Government jobs aren't lucrative like they once were, at least in my neck of the woods
