When you reframe it as "They can do good PR and do the heavy lifting at the wood chipper until it's their turn to go in," it makes a whole lot more sense.
Wild that "Infinity" is somehow the forbidden term in all this.

Remember that Vintage is still a 1% format. Most places are incapable of supporting it in non-proxy means. There's no reason to buy power except to collect for the greater part of most communities.
What's intellectually dishonest in, "Player may want to buy expensive cardboard to play instead of putting it in a case?" If there's no plan to play, there's zero point except judgment. Buying to collect is a subjective hobby, and implying there's a 'right' or 'wrong' way to collect is messed up.
Easy mode is TDS Elspeth + 50 Hare Apparent. Pairs super low and 98% of decks either don't or can't fight it. Turn 5 wins almost every game.
By that, a proxy is an even cheaper alternative outside of the double(?) digit sanctioned vintage events a year. It was my error thinking this was anything more than a bad faith argument to dunk the subjective choice in collecting. I'll give you credit for your bait and be on my way.
In their defense, there are a hundred times more opportunity to play the Chocobos than power. As a play piece birds are better, but as a collector piece the power is the choice.

It's great to see the decks thriving in MTGO Legacy events the last week are decks specifically hating on Reanimator. That's how metagames correct : The hate is integrated until the threat dies down. Graveyard plans are the last endorsed strat WotC allows "Hard Stop" hate to print today. Use it.
If anything, it threaded that needle of "so much backstory that it takes from the main plot" and "so little backstory that people who aren't 'in the know' are lost" 30ish seconds to get people up to speed and then drop them in.

My money is on Cauldron getting the Axe, if anything. It's closer to rotation, it's the real lynchpin on making the deck so over the top by granting bonus power and Vivi's ability to other creatures with base power on them. There's too many looter effects to pick one and remove.
