Okay, I just don't understand your point. The big "pro-practical effects" line is always "use practical effects where it's possible and then use CGI for the rest" and that's what they did in Terminator 2. They came up with the liquid metal idea and used CGI bc they could not have done it otherwise.
Well, I've looked into it and a lot of effects were also practical and even the purely CGI effects like the liquid metal stuff were combined with practical make-up stuff.

I don't understand. Are there like bad practical effects in it? Nobody said there were never any practical effects that looked bad. Obviously, you will always find those examples. But there are also many movies where mostly(!) practical effects hold up quite well, like Carpenters The Thing.
Like they made an entire software with early (rule-based) AI mechanics (MASSIVE) for those giant battles, but then once you got closer to those soldiers you had actual people in masks and real horses (most of the riders of Rohan are actually women with fake beards riding their own horses)
I mean, those movies obviously still use computer effects. But as far as I see, the best results are usually when as much as possible is done with practical effects and CGI and stuff is mostly supplementing it. The three Lord of The Rings movies are a great example for that.
