I can be at peace with the fact that we have different understandings of electrical safety, but I don't think you started from a place of reason. That's why I came out so strong.

In fact, this is being used to detect overheating on charging adapters. The control pilot pin is routed through a thermal switch which will open if it gets too hot, cutting off the CP signal and initiating immediate shutdown.

Correct, unless the control pilot pin is connected between the car and the charging station and they are communicating, there is never any voltage on the cable at all. And if for any reason the signal on the control pilot pin is lost, the charging station will immediately power down.

And on top of *that* the charger on the other end of the cord is in constant communication with the car it's charging, is constantly monitoring for signs of electrical faults, and will isolate the cable the moment something seems wrong - and this is a big reason charging sessions get interrupted!

1000V capable CCS stations have been on the ground since 2017, and there are now over a hundred thousand 800V-class EVs on the road. Drivers don't need to take courses on how to handle these big scary cables and connectors because *they are not scary* They are power cords like anything else.

As far as I know it's not! I'm not aware of any injuries from electric shock of any kind when using DC fast chargers. With how many folks out there have a vendetta against EVs, there'd for sure be a ton of media coverage if these chargers were hurting people.

Many many thousands of these charging stations have existed for a very long time. They are charging people's cars every single day. If you are actually worried about this, maybe do some searching for the prevalence of DC arc flash injuries at DC charging sites. Don't imagine things to be scary.

Do you think I'm the only person with an electric car or something? This is why I'm calling it performative paranoia. You are afraid about a thing happening which hasn't happened. You are making it out as if it is some kind of a mistake that these chargers exist.

Good news about the cutting-edge AI tools from the $3-trillion-dollar company.

Google AI search result for “was 2010 fifteen years ago?” returning: “No, 2010 was 14 years ago, not 15 years ago. The current year is 2025, and to find the number of years ago 2010 was, you subtract 2010 from 2025, which equals 14. Current Year: 2025 Past Year: 2010 Years Ago: 2025 - 2010 = 14 years”

I am not trans, if that's what you're asking, but I do not understand the obsession people seem to have with controlling their lives. Actually I do understand it—it's all very eugenics-adjacent and trans folks reveal how artificial our gender norms are—but I am making clear I find it gross.

Listening to a podcast where a well known tech world wannabe fascist calls journalism "nonconsensual invasion of privacy for profit" and thinks that's clever and my goodness does that reveal a lot of how completely brain wormed a bunch of these guys are once they faced a tiny bit of criticism.

Further, there's a lot of middle-school "you have to like what I like or we can't be friends" energy which comes out in these discussions. We both want a politician who will be a bully to the regime. I will not accept a politician who will be a bully to the homeless or trans folks.

I'm going to say this as politely and plainly as I possibly can. This response tells me you don't believe my criticisms (or those of others) are sincere.

i don't expect any politician to be perfect, but i also think there are unacceptable things to do and say. the mismatch some people are seeing between his words and actions is a direct result of his smarm. he's optics-first and choosing some wildly inappropriate things in my view.

[sigh] you're doing the thing. a lot of people are expressing their concerns about newsome and rather than engage with those concerns as valid, there's a rather bandwagony-compulsion to toss them aside because newsome happens to have some good tactics.

when someone knows the right things to say to be agreeable to an audience and will pander with a thin veneer of sincerity, that's smarmy. some folks are tricked by that veneer, others see through it.

no, see, the lesson here is that smarm need not be part of that strategy and mayhaps there's no reason to continue on a tack which disgusts people for no reason. and personally, there's a line you can cross where smarm makes you untrustworthy, and newsome's crossed mine several times.

actually, most everyone knows what smarm is but they may not be able to identify it as smarm. certain people, myself included, are repulsed by smarminess. certain politicians exude it, and to me it's a huge huge warning sign. regrettably, it's effective on some people.

i know that's probably not a helpful answer, but he comes off as incredibly smarmy to me and is basically the reason i posted this. the revulsion many people feel about him comes from his smarm.
