Not to hijack the topic, but clearing homeless camps is a fraught issue. Are the shelters safe? Are they adequately staffed? Can people leave their belongings or do they have to vacate the shelter daily/weekly? Is there enough space in them or are you just moving the encampment out of sight?

I do. And honestly any legislation would need to be enforced and have actual, real consequences. At the end on the day though, real change requires most of the people wanting change. It requires a majority of people deciding we don’t have to live like this.
Way back when I moved to Chicago, it was illegal to have a gun in the city. That law was overturned. And laws aimed at preventing straw purchases in Indiana have been weakened. They purchase guns in Indiana then bring those guns to Chicago/Illinois where the laws are tougher.
I hope it doesn’t come to that, but yes, I don’t blame anyone either. I say this as a gun owner. Obviously any discussion about gun control won’t happen with the current regime. The gun fetishists have eroded any laws aimed at sensible control in much the same way as they attacked reproductive right
I just wish they were less available and required a license, much like driving a car does. But this is ‘Merica and the second amendment as interpreted by the Supreme Court will never let that be possible.
