I'd guess slosher/dread/RPW/tent could play around vac better? Plus now you have 2 tools to counter bubble which kinda shuts your comp down otherwise.
I feel like both frontlines are going to be moving away from the vac a lot no? I'm not sure if you use vac solo more with a tent out, but on BPN I always have trouble keeping dualies in the cone.

At this point I just wanna show up to tournaments/scrims and like run a hypothetical team account because I have fun with it. I can see myself being a captain again eventually, but I need a break from it for a while.
I've tried this and co-captaining w/11 ft 8 Bridge, but I've also been a captain 100% of my comp career. I really just want to be a player without the mental load of any leadership. Which is a rough spot to be in considering it's the best way to get to use my weapon pool?
Maybe the right thing will pop up soon, but I need a break after Riptide regardless. My mental has definitely improved post-NBFuss despite horrid life events, but I kinda just jumped straight into another team after the disbandment? I need to give myself time to reset my disillusions with comp rn.

I miss Nonbinary Fuss and being on a team :/ I know it hasn't been that long, but I'm not cut out for pickup culture. I really value consistent practice and connections - the team aspect of the game is one of the coolest parts of comp to me.

I hate fighting liter and rat weapons, which is exactly why I want to scrim that. You just hurt your growth if you refuse a scrim because of the enemy comp. Special spam and/or reeflux are going to pop up in a tournament set, and they're going to wish they had practice against it.

So I compared hyperoffense to hyperdive, which isn't 1:1 because a weapon isn't forced into a role like a PokΓ©mon is with stats/ability/moves. Ogerpon-Wellspring is really strong right now and I wanted to make a dumb joke about wellstring.
Hyperoffense is a team archetype in competitive PokΓ©mon singles. Instead of swapping pokemon, most of the time you sack them (let them die). Donzodo, Alomomola, and Gliscor are commonly used on stall teams, which wear out your resources. This can be through abilities, hazards, status, etc.

I go through phases of watching different comp games on youtube and right now it's pokemon singles. It was MK8D for a while, and a bit of melee and FE Engage before that. background noise from a video helps me sleep and eventually you pick up on things.
hyperdive is cool and all, but how is your matchup into stall? I feel like unaware Dondozo or regenerator Alomomola just wall your entire team. Maybe try running an Ogerpon-Wellstring? Break through their big bubbler and poison heal Gliscor at the same time. #highdivsplatoon

I've had scrims end due to people being late, people having bedtimes, internet issues never had someone need to end a scrim because they were playing tom and jerry with a squirrel trapped in their room (not slander btw, the squirrel was disclosed ahead of time)

After a ticket sitting for over 2 weeks, calling ASRock sales/being redirected to support, resubmitting a ticket via email, and another 24 hours I got proof my GPU could do 2x DP output. I swapped a cable and it worked. Why is the first displayport so picky?? Same cable, different port works.

I will say that I genuinely believe there are no good weapon guides for any blaster or shooter right now. At least for a comp player. Biggest gap. Stringers are the only class to have a knowledgeable guide for the entire class. If someone has a counterexample I'd be happy to add it.

I'm not super familiar with what happens with CCA but they seem to be doing a great job in general creating storylines and recognizable teams. Especially because something like UCSD Gold will always exist, even if the roster is ever changing.
More consistent LUTI could help, but it's a ton of work for the people who seed/organize/TO/produce it. I'm trying to take a player-based approach with having an easier time for a casual viewer to follow the scene.
Getting comp players can also be challenging because the people who watch might also be competing instead. Low Ink this month was the same time/day as ITZ (at least for Sat). That's a sizable chunk of the comp audience busy and unable to watch.
I do agree getting the casual fanbase at this point is hard. But there are so many casual players that even minimal effort could pay dividends? The game probably has 1-2 more content updates with weapons/a map + raiders coming soon.
I don't think they need to be mutually exclusive. And speaking from at least doing team branding at low level, it isn't that much extra effort after you get a consistent group of 4-5 ppl playing together on a team. One person can make social media posts, you only need to make a good name/logo once.

It's definitely a multifacited issue, I just see recognizable teams being a big pain point. More comp youtubes, better balanced TC/RM/CB for variety, better marketing, better official support, etc. all could help too. It's also the one issue I feel I can speak on most since I did it with NBFuss.

I do agree that the audience and grassroots nature puts Splatoon in a weird spot compared to other shooters or fighting games though. Especially with the perception the series has amongst the people most likely to enjoy it (people who already play shooters/competitive games)
But there are also people who might casually play/follow the game who could instead stumble into watching tournaments over competing. That's the audience I want to see be engaged. And I want to see that barrier to entry lowered. I think hearing about FTWin is much easier than XYZ pickup.
I will say that we need more comp focused youtubers - I discovered that comp splatoon existed by trying to look up an S2 tier list and finding Chara's channel for example. But honestly that still hasn't translated into me personally wanting to watch tournaments for example.
I'm imagining someone scrolling twitch, seeing SuperJump, and then staying to watch because they like Freeflow and see they're mid-set. I don't think casual viewers are going to be that proactive to seek out who XYZ player is doing a pickup with?
Comp players are a limited pool, already aware of tournaments and probably playing in the ones they care about. Sure I want them to watch too, but casual players are an untapped group wayyyyy bigger than the comp scene. You aren't getting say 500 ppl watching ITZ without casuals.
Most won't go on to compete, but they like the game and maybe want to watch people who are really good. How do we get them to watch? They aren't in the IPL discord, they're like A rank and maybe follow Dude or Jaymoji on Bluesky and Youtube. I want them to be invested in tournaments.
Not a 1:1 comparison, but I have a friend who casually watches smash ultimate. He's played it a decent bit but really only cares about watching tournaments. Knows the game but doesn't want to compete. There are tons of casual splatoon players in a similar boat that aren't being catered to.
Like ya that info is shown in-game but it isn't immediately obvious. If Moonlight is playing, I know which 4 people are there. Showing players on the side like squid junction did yesterday helps, but the team itself needs branding too imo.
Let's say you like Kyo or Chara, who are they playing with? How do you know when their team is on stream if you miss the beginning of the match listing players? It's an unnecessary barrier to entry. I think it is much easier to root for say Omega or Basil because you know Moonlight's roster
Casual viewership turns people into comp players. Youtubers help some too, but I don't think that translates into stream viewership as much? A lot of the onus is on players of all levels to make recognizable teams. The TOs and production are doing as much as they can. #splatoon #compsplatoon
Nonbinary Fuss got a following because I really tried to push a social media presence and we lasted ~3 years. I don't think people knew any of us individually well, but I can't tell you how many people recognized Bleach and I at Riptide last year the instant we said we were on NBFuss.
Not a new thought but bears worth repeating - how could a casual fan follow top level with so many pickup groups? We need more Moonlights and Cherry Limeades. Branding is so important and people need groups to root for. Just a good name, logo, and active bluesky account alone go so far.
oh this did end up getting fixed btw. clinic straight up forgot to attach paperwork when submitting the prior auth :/ because of how the dates worked out it didn't end up with an interruption in my normal treatment schedule at least
I'd assume younger players, with more time to grind the game, have a better shot of getting onto a top 500 list (or feeling miffed that they should be on there for XYZ reason/result/rank)
Maybe baseless idea but could age be a factor here? Bluesky's demographic leans older from what I can tell. I'm not sure what the minor/adult split looks like for high/top level players, but if it leans younger more could be on X instead.

For reference I even have a 2 min video on painbrush going over a single specific mechanic/tech.
No shooters either. All I'm really looking for is being comp focused and generally scripted. There are a lot of videos on weapons aimed at more general audiences, which is great but not a resource for a comp player. Can be a doc too, Wellstring has one and flux has one I forgot I had saved.
