This is proper mad. Thought this was a lost cause. An independent decision like this helps a lot.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s incredible. But of course now we’ve got to fit that to a 25 man Premiership Squad and… however many were allowed for the Europa League.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Wasn’t it the cancelling of a Traore transfer a few weeks back which is supposed to have started the fallout between Nuno and Edu?
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s because you’d be mistaking us for the name of both another team and the county club rather than the city club. A bit like deliberately confusing Man City with Man Utd.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
This. Nott’m is hardly a difficult abbreviation. Using the County term would be like calling Leicester ‘Leicestershire City’. But it’s generally used most frequently by people looking to wind up a Forest fan.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Does sort of feel that way.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Anything could happen at this point. Would not surprise me the slightest.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
I mean, TBF West Ham had been getting the rub of it before the first goal. But to gift them 2 more in quite that manner. That’s pathetic. You cannot collapse like that in the top flight.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
I welcome it. But it is a shame. On paper Dennis was what Forest needed at the time. But things progressed quickly. Many of those players signed upon promotion weren’t up to the task within a season. It’s all a bit mad. But the task changed.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
To be a scab you’d need to grass somebody up. But UEFA were already investigating Palace. Palace would have known that if they’d checked their emails. With the investigation underway Forest only ever contacted UEFA to find out when it would end. The club had to pause transfers while they waited.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
TBF Forest had lined up 3 Botafogo moves during last season, to join after the World Club Cup. One of these decided not to move, and has now changed his mind. Another team mate has chosen to join them. It all began long before John Textor bungled Palace and Parrish failed to read his emails.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
I feared he would become the new Harry Arter. He seemed like a logical signing at the time, but he just never delivered. We moved on and up a lot faster than expected. He’s not in that bracket, sadly.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
If I recall rightly, sell-on clauses don’t get cancelled. They’re part of the transfer agreement rather than the contract? I could be wrong, but that’s how I remember it.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Absolutely. Just a bizarre sequence of events we’ve somehow been caught up in.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Don’t get me wrong here. It feels wrong that you’ve had that FA Cup win soured by this. Most Forest fans were behind you against City. No question. But the nasty banners and conspiracies make us far less sympathetic. The 7th place side would always have replaced you. If not us? Some bigger else.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
They do seem to still intentionally be jumping on this tag, just to rant about their latest Marinakis or Forest conspiracy theory. But oddly enough don’t seem very interested in having holes picked in those.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Well that’s my brain shot with an ear worm, for the rest of the afternoon.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Seems the gist of it. And the vehement claim that they were never part of a multi club ownership. Despite being one of a 5 club holdings company; which could easily be discovered via their website and a quick check with Companies House.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
I would hope so. And I doubt many Forest fans hold any kind of grudge here. Many of us cheered Palace on in FA Cup. This is a back room screw up which has soured Palace’s moment. I dislike that immensely. But these are the rules. They knew they were breaking them.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
To suggest Forest had an involvement in somehow leveraging UEFA via a secret plot is ridiculous. It seems to dismiss an actual breach of the rules. Palace were rightly punished for that. I don’t feel it to be in spirit of the game. But by the book? Rules were broken.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
2) The multi club ownership rules include being part of a holdings company. Palace were. John Textor’s Eagle Football Holdings. 5 clubs. This included Lyon, which is why Palace fell foul. This was very easy for UEFA to discover through Companies House and their website. And they already had.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Given Forest having been caught by FFP before the club wanted to know what budget they would be working with this season. Very different between EL and ECL. Transfer that weren’t already agreed were put on hold until after Palace’s appeal.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
You are working on misinfo here. 1) UEFA had been investigating Palace for breaching rules long before any contact from Forest. As the 7th place club they would be taking Palace’s place. So the the club wrote to UEFA to as for an estimate of when the decision of their investigation would be made.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
An email address your club provided UEFA with. All correspondence reached Palace. But the club didn’t pay them any heed. This is a pretty spectacular show of incompetence don’t you think? A bit like pretending you weren’t part of a multi club holdings company. When that was easily disproven.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s not a terrible draw. Bit of nostalgia with Malmo. Should be good.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Fantastic!
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
This banner has nothing to do with Forest, though.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
* Siding = Spending Bloody autocorrect.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
The banner was a bit silly though. It’s makes reference to things that fans know he has been legally acquitted from in the past, and treading just close enough to libel that it could get their club an FA disrepute charge. That helps nobody.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Agreed. He doesn’t cancel transfers at the last minute claiming the player ‘failed an eye test’. He doesn’t leave other clubs wondering if they’ll get agreed to payments. He doesn’t argue that we are siding too much on balls, when you could just buy those at the local ASDA. The last guy…
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Most of the subs on Forest’s bench couldn’t be added in preseason. Talks were ongoing. But until the club knew which competition we were going to be in they couldn’t be completed. You can’t be dobbinh somebody in, when you’re writing to ask when the investigation they are already under will end.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
But it’s still based on a falsehood. The budgets of the EL and ECL are very different. Forest are desperate not to fall foul of PSR again. Transfers were being lined up, but couldn’t be completed until after your appeal was settled. Huge delay. Forest only ever wrote to get a deadline date.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
* Bizarre autocorrect typos there. ‘All rules changes were sent to all EPL clubs’.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
I figured as much, with the clown nose at the back. But to be brutally honest the bulk of Forest fans are utterly bewildered as to why the club is being dragged into this. Forest have done nothing wrong. We benefit. But if the last few games had been different it would have been Villa or Brighton.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
If the last couple of weeks of the season has been different it wouldn’t have been Forest to benefit. It could have been Villa. It could have been Brighton. But it would have had absolutely no bearing on Palace’s fate. Pretending other clubs were in any way to blame is simply not true.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
It really is as simple as: * As rules was higher to ball EPL clubs. * Palace broke these rules. * They were told the 7th placed EPL team would replace them. Is it sporting? Not greatly. Could Palace have avoided it? With planning 100%. Only the club can answer why they chose not to.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Figures within Crystal Palace have tried to insinuate that this legitimate contact was donning them in. In truth they already knew they would likely be demoted.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Forest never ‘challenged’ anything. Almost two weeks after reports of Palace being investigated it was reported that Forest had asked UEFA when the deadline for a decision was. They’ve been caught for FFP before. The budgets for EL and ECL are very different. Transfer were being lined up.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
John Textor of course has admitted he knew. And was aware of the problem as he watched the FA Cup final. But to say UEFA were not investigating Palace until challenged? That’s not true. It’s been reported that UEFA contacted the club to warn them they were breaching rules. This was ignored.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
He did. And he still seems to be feeding this false narrative that both Palace have never been part of a multi club holdings company and that Forest are directly responsible for Palace getting caught. Neither are true. You can call it a loophole. But it is the legally viable option here.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
If we are to believe what has been reported UEFA contacted all EPL clubs explaining the rules change last season, and later contacted Palace individually to warn them that they faced breaking them. Palace either ignored that contact or chose not to respond. They took no action of any kind.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
But this is the key difference. UEFAs rules require it. While the deadline had passed, ahead of breaking them the owner and the club contacted UEFA and were in doing so were given a short extension allowing them to comply. This likely could also have happened with Palace. But 100% did not.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Because Olympiacos remains the club he is most actively involved with, and in his home country. He ran them first, and they had already qualified for the CL. When Forest looked like they would too? He acted. Ultimately it became irrelevant because Forest choked in the final month of the season.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Wasn’t it Edu cancelling that Traore transfer that promoted the falling out between him Nuno?
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Bit pathetic. Vaguely xenophobic too. I get that they’re angry. I’m just surprised that so little vitriol is directed towards the club officials who got them in the mess they have found themselves in. You can blame Forest all you like, but it’s the Palace ownership which got them there.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Definitely. No shame on Forest for the result. Hard fought. Most of the new signings from the past two weeks got a run out in the latter stages. All to the good.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
*Maybe*. But think more likely it’s just that he’ll barely have trained. Making him a sub means he’s gets to bond with the match squad, and if an injury needed a replacement in that position? Even low fitness is better than none. He’s a good player.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Dear god, I hope that if that happens we do a little better than Bad News Brendan. The club and Nuno need to heal this rift. It feels like Edu’s presence has behind a spectacular act of self-sabotage for the club.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
That is just… sad.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
The best we can hope for here feels like heads down, securing a win tomorrow and just moving on. But I get the impression this going to rock on. Can we not just play some football? Is this too much to ask?
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
This. Can we not just get on with playing football? Winning matches? Is this too much to ask?
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Has he actually found another club yet?
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
I think everyone needs to calm the fuck down and remember that they’re running a football team. As to whether they’ll do that? Only time will tell.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Sounds whiffy to me.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
I wonder how much time, effort and money was wasted trying to pointlessly challenge the management’s wrongdoing. If even part of that had been used to plan for the new season it would have done them plenty more favours.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Definitely need to move them on. Richards remains a shame, to me. On paper should have done well, but those injury issues feel like they’ve put paid to a career at this point. That Dennis is still on the books is bewildering. Who will be the new Harry Arter? Only time will tell.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s a lovely theory, but Palace was ready under investigation from UEFA. It was having been informed that Palace were likely to be demoted, with Forest moving up in their place, which prompted Forest to contact UEFA to find out when a decision would be made. They were not aware of that before.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
And Forest aren’t a county side. They’re the city club. They play at The City Cround. And yet some folks still can’t seem to get their heads around that.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
More likely that they’re following a curated list, using the NFFC hashtag or ‘Nottingham Forest’. That’s largely how Bluesky works. It’s how this message just turned up in my own feed.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Or maybe calling Crystal Palace ‘Croydon’.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Largely because it’s not their name. Forest are not the county side. Notts is the abbreviated version of Nottinghamshire. It’d be like calling Leicester ‘Leics City’.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
You know, I’ going to have to employ this tactic on all future transfers, now…
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Fair point. How City have been permitted to keep kicking their PSR decision down the road disgusts me at this point.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Honestly, what saddens me the most is that the majority of Forest fans cheered Palace on in the FA Cup final. Many do feel genuinely sorry that this has happened to them. We bear them no ill will. But Palace’s official statements and interviews on the subject seek to blame Forest unjustly.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Parrish refuses to accept what happened on his watch, and fought aggressively to blame another club for his errors in judgement. This has resulted in the raised police presence for the fixture. His words have stoked a VERY aggressive attitude against Forest which is has concerned people enough.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Being against MCO is irrelevant if you allow your club to BE PART OF an MCO. Which they were. Until the appeal they were still listed on Eagle Football Holdings’ website and literature. Photos of the FA Cup win are still on that site I believe.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Palace being investigated by UEFA has never had anything to do with Nottingham Forest. To suggest otherwise is simply untrue. Parrish has repeatedly suggested that it tangibly is, rather than admit his and John Textor’s fault.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Palace are where they are through a mixture of neglect and incompetence from upper management, which was wholly avoidable. Forest have only ever asked for clarifications over when UEFA would make their decision. Because that affected budgets for the season. They don’t want to get caught by FFP.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Steve Parrish still claims that the club has never been part of multi-club ownership. Eagle Football Holdings and Companies House says otherwise. Steve Parrish has spread misinformation about Forest plotting to get Palace demoted. In reality the club was already under investigation.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
I think everyone has gone bananas hearing we were in for Rico Lewis. But that move is surely dead. If he’s playing in Man City’s first team now, he’s no incentive to leave.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
The year is 2099. World economies have crashed and burned. Nuclear war has rendered many territories uninhabitable. Vast tracts of lawless wasteland dominate the landscape. Nottingham Forest expect to conclude their deal with Douglas Luiz any day now, with negotiations looking positive.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
We’d be looking at Williams and Cash battling for that right back place. With Eric da Silvs Moriera I think also able to offer backup. That might be no bad thing. Cash is still rated by Villa. They want him to sign a new contract.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s a real grey area. Clubs can make general enquiries with agents about their clients. Informally. But they cannot discuss contract details and the like without making an official approach to the club. It’s very easy to unsettle a player this way.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Absolutely. Through the 90s we had a bit of yo-yo club period, where it always felt like if we went down we’d be straight back up soon enough. But after Big Ron Atkinson and the experiments of David Platt, it was clear that cycle was broken.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
At least that’s what is being reported tonight.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Liverpool bid on the 1st of August. £110 million plus add-ons. NUFC rejected that. Isak is now claiming the club have broken promises made to him.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
It wasn’t just PVH, of course. It was also down to Nigel Wray taking over, but then only ever really ploughing money into Saracens rather than Forest. Irving Scholar played his part too. But it started a two decade long wilderness period, which still feels like a fresh wound.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Definitely tried to unsettle him. But proving an illegal approach is very tricky. If he wants to go? He’s contracted. By rights he should play. I hope he doesn’t strike.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Of course Forest fans with long memories do know about that, too. Pierre Van Hooijdonk’s legendary going on strike played a big part in their exit from the Premier League back at the end of the 90s.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
In what way, though? Liverpool haven’t done anything done anything legally questionable. They made an official bid. NUFC rejected it, as they are within their right to. Did Isak have a release clause or something protected by an NDA? Otherwise you just have a player refusing to play for the club.

The model is deeply flawed. Supposedly big teams need to pay the going rate. Many clubs can’t hold out for that though. And when every sports media source starts assuming it’s a done deal it makes it even tougher. How many sources reporting MGW to Spurs knew what to do when that didn’t happen?

This season will be the first time in Europe since 1996, back when the Europa League was still the UEFA Cup. We did make the quarter finals that year. But I hope not to repeat the drubbing we received from Bayern Munich that season. It was brutal.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Forest don’t fit the narrative. Provincial team, from outside the chosen favoured cities, we have to fight twice as hard to be acknowledged. But the best way to achieve that is always through success and self-belief. Not being pushovers. You can’t ignore results forever.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
Even back in the early 90s, having secured immediate promotion back to the top flight under Frank Clark, beating Utd in their prime, and finishing 3rd, not a huge amount of fuss was ever made beyond the East Midlands. We still got low billing on MotD and Brooking and Hanson played the success down.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
This is really good to hear. I hope it’s an indication that the club’s profile in general is on the rise again. After two decades+ of obscurity in the lower leagues, to finally be back and establishing some kind of baseline presence is immense. We’re not just here to make up the numbers.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
But, they won’t. Parrish can do no wrong in most Palace Fans’ eyes. You will see some criticism of Textor. But they believe wholeheartedly what Parrish tells them. Even though it’s so easily disputed and disproven, they need to cling to that. The alternative is accepting incompetence cheated them.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
The national side should always be made up of the best players, showing the best current form, of all eligible players. The notion that playing for England should be a closed and exclusive club for players who secure a contract with a handful of favoured clubs really is an insult to the game.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
They even almost lost that status last season. For all those years in the top flight they haven’t exactly achieved much with them. Just ask Harry Kane. Certainly not compared next to their closest rivals.
Mark Roberts (@thatmarkroberts.bsky.social) reply parent
To me Spurs have always been a club that comes across as feeling entitled far beyond their actual achievements. They’re the opportunistic club that unsettles players at other clubs and snatches at them rather than developing talent of their own. They’re only selling feature? Long term top flight.

That eye test fiasco encapsulates the Fawaz Al-Hasawi era of Forest. George Boyd was a player who by anybody’s standards would have been a sound investment. If you can’t free up the money? Don’t make the bid. This kind of nonsense excuse damaged the club’s standings with others.
