When I was a US soldier, I got to work with the Canadians a couple of weeks every year, from ‘85-‘88. Professional, competent, fun & reliable. Later as DoD civ in Germany, I got to interact & help train & support Canadian forces folks training for the wars down south, ‘02-‘08. Same. Respect!

Enlisted/NCOs, no, they’re contractually obligated for a specified period (usually 8 yrs, on duty and inactive reserves). They cannot opt out under weight of regulation and law. Officers CAN resign their commissions, but may face resistance from the command in processing that resignation.
They could face court martial and prison. Might they be exonerated at some point under a different admin? Possibly. In the meantime, they lose pay, privileges and freedom. Unless a fairly senior officer or NCO backs them, and ALSO refuses the order, the junior enlisted troop will get screwed.
I’ve said this before, and I’m not picking on Ultrapop here, just offering some info. NG troops CAN refuse unlawful orders. It’s clear in the regulations. However, IRL, it’s way more complex and fraught. A troop who disobeys a bad order will likely face Art.15 proceedings AT A MINIMUM. 1/?
