I think by the time he met Gortash he'd given up on that dream. He had his own child in a way, in Orin. Gortash was a surprise, but exactly what Achaia had wanted and more over he was what he needed. And Gortash does give him the family he wanted.

Achaia's Slayer form is probably also a more grey color than red. But I like to think there's so many unique slayers there's probably other grey ones too. Poor Gort thinks almost all of them look alike.

Both children were particularly hard to carry and birth-requiring c-sections. And Bhaal withered Achaia's womb after his second child. So there would be no more. As a punishment for his betrayal. I've written a few pieces about it, mostly from Gortash's perspective.

& if Gort came back & didn't remember him. Despair. If Gortash came back a different man, a better man who wanted to do good? Oh despair. I suspect Achaia would follow him anywhere either way, Bhaal hardly mattered at all to him by that time. But it would be harder having not forgotten himself.
Oh and imagine how long Gort would be gone. Like that plan would fall apart, who could even attempt to fill his shoes. Achaia would probably lay waste to the entire cult in his grief. Ketheric might succeed in talking him down but his care for the plot would be over.
