And that's the point. This is a protest group. They didn't proscibe Just Stop Oil they used existing protest laws. No-one cares if I wear a JSO logo but wearing a Palestine Action one could get me 14 years in prison. I've seen the proscription used to silence/intimidate unrelated palestinian events.

Interesting. I like some true crime. If it's done in a documentary style rather than sensationalised. For me it's just a way to get crime related facts. But I'm horrified by people that interfere with live investigations to generate "content".

There is an arguably legal case against both Keir Starmer and David Lammy for not upholding the Genocide Convention. I would rather it was heard in a UK court but if it can't be, it can (& should) be at the ICC in the Hague. As such Zara's comments are valid and reasonable. This is not name-calling.

One court session and you'll see; you can't hear well, see well or easily defend yourself from the dock. The system is designed around *lawyers* with the defendant, witnesses and victim reduced to bit part players. Move the defendant to main court, make the process slick and easy to follow.
So as long as you're consistently awful that's OK? Oh the madness!
I question how prison has changed her for the better. At £53k a year prison is a very expensive form of punishment. I'd rather she met the people she terrorised, helped clean up the streets, broken windows, wrecked cars so she knew the real world consequences of hate speech and served the community.

Well said. The jury don't have an agenda other than deciding innocence or guilt. They take the whole thing very seriously, sometimes working on very nasty cases. They deserve full respect.

This is cover for not imposing tariffs on semiconductors and other goods that aren't made in the states or aren't made in the quantities required. Logically foreign companies should build invest in the US to remove/reduce tariffs but there's no certainty this policy will last so they just won't.

The problem is so massive politicians would rather back a "get out of jail scheme" than look at the hard work decarbonising the global economy. But the engineering is unproven at scale and unlikely to work.
You don't just suddenly become a fascist state. It happens step by step. Once you normalise this happening to prisoners who is next? How do you appeal wrongful conviction from a hell hole like that? What about people held on remand, who haven't even had a trial? Step by step.

I'm more concerned about the genocide in Gaza but I'm also worried about the creeping authoritanism in the UK. So I'm looking to push back at both.
This misses one of the largest costs, decommissioning. Done by the government Nuclear Decommissioning Authority so we, the tax payer, pay for it. They estimate £105 billion for the 17 sites they currently manage (23/24 accounts). And we still have no long term storage solution.
It's next to the coast so that it can use North Sea water to cool it's cooling water. It's a copy of Hinkley Point C so it'll likely have a tunnel out to sea to collect/return sea water.
Unfunded, ineffective, sound bites. In general repeat offenders have needs that have not been addressed; drink, drugs, mental health, education. But you can't deal with these complex issues in a sound bite.
If it's a commercial company and it's mismanaged it should fail. Anything else encourages poor behaviour by management, complacency by the shareholders and neglegent lending by bank/bond holders. Let them fail into special administration rather than forcing bill payers to bail them out.
It's an interconnected country. The children loosing out now, (from child support but also from child disability and mental health failings), are more likely to be criminals of the future. But governments don't like to deal with future problems. There's no votes in the problem that didn't happen.
It brings tears to my eyes to read this. I'm reminded of a description I heard from the first doctor to arrive at Belson concentration camp. History will not look kindly on such utter cruelty.
But 1) terrorism laws are so draconian they should be used sparingly, they limit public debate. There's a pros and cons argument I can't give here. 2) there's already laws covering all of the illegal actions. 3) people deserve to know when a group is a threat to their lives, this muddies the waters.
If you move from a slow system that's trusted to a quick system that's not trusted you just change the problem. Nor will it address inefficiencies in the court from barrister pay, court room availability, transport, prisons, witnesses (including police). People trust juries.

There is no good way of attacking satellites. If you blow them up you create thousands of pieces of debris that will remain in orbit potentially for years and hit other satellites at random, (which could themselves make more debris). I call bluff.

If the police tell you can't/have to do something. Always ask, "Under what power?" Then ask which section of that law. If there's no law requiring it it's just a polite request from the police which you are completely free to ignore. To often the police make stuff up to get people to comply.

Your analysis of the court system problems rings true to the issues I hear about. When cases are rescheduled, often to 2+ years in the future, it's because they couldn't get a prosecutor, judge, clerk and court room together. One missing piece and the defendants are sent home at the end of the day.
Thanks for review. I still don't see how removing juries, the cheapest and most plentiful part of the system, will reduce costs. The same witnesses and evidence will be heard. The same defendants who can't get legal aid will self-rep.
The Knesset summer session ends July 27. After that there's no 'no confidence' votes possible till they return in October. Don't expect a deal till July 27th-ish 🤦 and only if Trump hasn't lost interest by then. Men, women and children, are dying by the day but Bibi is playing the politics.

Arresting an 83 year old priest is not a policing priority it's a political priority. Just like the last minute banning of a Palestine Action protest from Parliament Square wasn't a policing decision it was a political decision. It would be nice to see Met do more policing, and less politics.

Palestine Action are the symptom, the government doesn't want to do the hard work and look at the cause. In taking the easy path they line the country up for future governments banning more protest, more free speech. Red paint isn't guns and bombs, Palestine Action isn't the Al Qa’ida.
Not even the previous government banned Palestine Action but one moment of embarrassment and Cooper jumps. Spray paint isn't terrorism. Palestine Action isn't ISIS.

Once you start down the slippery path of banning groups you don't like or who embarrass you it's hard to stop. If Labour can do this in 2025 what will the next government do in 2030? If there is even the fear you could be banned, silenced, your money seized, who will dare speak up to government?
It's the slippery slope. You lower the criteria for terrorism for one group you don't like, you (and successive governments) can do it for any group you don't like. Antiterrorism laws are about protecting the public not silencing dissenting voices.
