For what it's worth, I'd say the best analog is the fascist regimes in Italy and Germany in the 1920s (Italy) and 1930s (both). Second best is good old fashioned Soviet communism. These guys want workers to own nothing and will ensure their servitude at the barrel of a gun (see LA and DC).

Yeah, summer here in Surface of the Sun, CA has gotten insanely expensive, particularly this year. Just looked, my last bill was $526 for July. One of many reasons I wish we could move somewhere cooler.
