I think the smell complaint is the variability of the ebonite ones.
I would unhesitantingly flamethrower the film negatives and hard drives of every other Bond movie to protect "Casino Royale'.

You're right. Marvel's way better.
Interstellar and Tenet are two of the most absurdly ridiculously plotted movies I've ever seen, so I'm not sure that's a great analogy for "precision plotting".
I meant it in the sense of complexity and reversals, not as in "Bob is revealed to be an anthropomorphic Cosmic Cube" (although that could happen down the road.) And by "complexity", I mean "Swiss Watch Intricacy". Not the "tossing spaghetti at a wall" thing the last two Mission Impossibles did.

Pitt goes to leave after his big crash, yet somehow forgets to tell Condan he's leaving until Menzies stops him and turns him around? Kind of a big "eh" from me on the romance-plotting there. (Condan was good throughout though, but that entire plot strand was underwritten - as were many more.)
Shonky plotting, feels thereβs significant material been edited out. The second half was faster than the first, but by two hours I was looking at the time. Score early-on transposes a melody from "True Romance", later on "Days Of Thunder". Pedestrian inbetween, weirdly unexciting final lap climax.
Watched "F1". Disappointed. Great cast, well cast. Relies on Pittβs charm to coast it through. Bland direction style; over-lit, blandly color-graded. Shockingly ineffective Zimmer score Ron Howardβs great "Rush" in 2013 I wanted to immediately see again. Ditto "Ford vs Ferrari". Not so much this.
Staggering.

I feel a bit cheated that this Zulu-translated version of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" switches to English in the middle. And there's no getting around it...there's no substitute for Brian May's "Red Special".

I LITERALLY had someone this week with "offer" that! Saying that, I've worked with writers in the past decade on about 700 scripts - I've found about 9 I really responded to. Two I redrafted with and I'm trying to set them up to direct myself, 5 others I'm trying to help place with producers.

Ah. Thanks for the clarification. In my profession I use "English", which provides for a wider usage of multiple variations of a word, including but not limited to humor and pun usage. This will have been a mutually beneficial exchange for both of us, I feel.

When I give screenwriting notes to new writers who come to me for consultancy with period screenplays, I'll do my best to to look out for anachronisms (figures of speech, words that weren't in use, machine inaccuracies, whatever.). It's astonishing how few people even bother putting in research.

When I was a kid, my mother and myself saw a big glowing ball over a nearby colliery. I'm wondering if that one had a physics-based explanation. I was laying in a field when I was 14, watching meteors and satellites. I saw one do an abrupt 90° turn⦠which is of course impossible.
I liked "Heads" more than I should. Unnecessarily and excessively violent: could have been a cross between "Midnight Run" and "My Fellow Americans". What's wrong with pleasant, anymore? Needed a rewrite by a British writer: It didnβt really seem to understand anything about European economics.
About 10 years ago, on a bright clear midday coming into approach to LAX, a flat black featureless disc half the length of our Air New Zealand 747, flew a few hundred feet below us. The woman behind me gasped, and I turned to her and said "Did you see that?" She nodded and said "What WAS that !?"

I didn't see the movie - is it worthwhile? (And what was the shot?)
I've sat down with Pixomondo, one of the top VFX houses working today, and broke-down effects sequences shot for shot for a film. I know what they cost. I know how many are needed. I look at some blockbusters using 5 to 10 shots per "gag", when it's clear you can telegraph the action using maybe 2.
These things used to be called "SPECIAL effects". The early days of Cinefex, a startling shot would be "SPECIAL", and would leap-out from the film and delight us, and we'd marvel at them. They'd be memorable. How "special" can a Special Effects shot be, when every shot is a Special Effects Shot?
My work on this planet is done.
In my 2025 ranked list of movies so far, Heads Of State is at #16. The Electric State is at #6. It could be better, but considering some of the absolutely excruciating dross Netflix pumps-out (The Gray Man, Red Notice, 6 Underground?), it was charming and entertaining, its heart on its sleeve.
