No worse than my Graflex RB Super D, probably a bit lighter in fact. It’s not going to fit in my jacket pocket, but compared to most 4x5 cameras, it’s pretty reasonable. Only one I have that would be significantly lighter is my Wanderlust Travelwide. That’s significantly less capable than this.

Camera came Monday of this week, so I’ve had it for four whole days. I did get the lens, because f/2.5 lenses for 4x5 are or exactly common. I also got the Instax back. I need to play with it more; I’ve only put one Grafmatic pack through it so far. I think the lens may be optimized for portraits.

Depends on whether you want a hosted site or are comfortable separating hosting from platform choice. I would probably avoid WordPress.com because of the recent flakiness of its owner, but WordPress hosted elsewhere or on a separate host that you pay for could work.

Typically for a stereo camera of that era, the photos would be printed side by side and place into a viewer. You would hold the viewer up to your face, which has a separation partition that ensures you see one of the images with each eye. Your brains puts them back together as stereo.

Exactly. The first back is perfect if you’re using it to proof shots the way professionals used to use Polaroid backs on the Hasselblad because you can switch easily. This version is more for people who shoot instant as a final product and want the shot without the compromise of the black border.
Ralph Brandi (@thereisnocat.com) reply parent
The Instax back came with film loaded in it. I’ve shot four pictures. It appears to work well.
Ralph Brandi (@thereisnocat.com) reply parent
The NONS back is interesting. You shift the viewfinder position upward with an adapter they provide. You also have to screw on a diopter to the lens in order to restore infinity focus. That’s how the get it to have no black border with this version. If you take off the diopter, your lens is a macro.
Ralph Brandi (@thereisnocat.com) reply parent
I’ve had it for about two hours. 🤣 First impression is positive. I have several Graflex SLRs, the camera that “inspired” this camera, so I’m quite familiar with the basics of how it works. It meets my expectations so far.
Ralph Brandi (@thereisnocat.com) reply parent
The Smartflex is a 4x5 camera, not medium format like the Hasselblad. The back that’s on it now is a Lomograflok back that Smartflex modified to make the film plate flatter; Lomography’s standards didn’t meet their high expectations. I’ll also use standard 4x5 backs and Grafmatic backs.
Ralph Brandi (@thereisnocat.com) reply parent
Here it is next to my Hasselblad 500cm (with the new NONS Instax Square back attached). That should give you an idea of scale.
