A friend feels the same about people as I do about sitting. She gets easily "peopled out", and needa a solitary break. So whether it is spoons, sits, or people, life comes with a cost for many of us. We can do it, but we have limits, which are more pressing than most people's [5/5].
Tom Shakespeare (@tomshakespeare.bsky.social) reply parent
Instead of spoons, I have sits. They are limited. Each event I choose to sit through has to be worth the inevitable recovery time. [4/x].
Tom Shakespeare (@tomshakespeare.bsky.social) reply parent
So I have to chose what I do. I can't do everything. I can't do unlimited days of sitting. Each event (or sit) needs to be foĺliwed by downtime. I need to choose which events or activities are worth sitting through, knowing soreness will follow. [3/?]
Tom Shakespeare (@tomshakespeare.bsky.social) reply parent
But I don't have fatigue, I have pain. The more I sit, the more pain I have. A day or evening of sitting is followed by one or more days of lying around recovering. [2/?]
Tom Shakespeare (@tomshakespeare.bsky.social)
I like spoon theory, how a person with fatigue has only a limited number of spoons, and has to decide which activities to spend them on. They have a limit beyond which they cannot go. [1/x]
