yeah, my neurons aren't nearly spicy enough for gamedev, so i throw these ideas out there in the hopes it may manifest someday, a vain hope i know, but hey. I've also got one where you're a mind in a robot shell and you try and solve your century's long murder/get revenge.

I'd just like to see more games where you can define your character in gameplay than the usual ticking of boxes when you start a new game is all. Kinda evolves during the process of play i guess. Thanks for listening to me ramble, it's something i think on every now and again. (7/7)
I guess i like the idea of people being *invested* in their characters, so why not let 'em build them from the ground up? and an entire game being a loooong character creator in its own right seems like a suitably apt fit, really. I'm not a gamedev so i've no idea how it'd work, however. (6/7)

you piece yourself together, everything from your eyes, face, body, just the minutiae of how you look. everything has stats of course, what RPG wouldn't? but there's fine tuning all of that to look how you want, to cultivate your little self. (4/7)
Gender, sexuality (if either are your thing), too.. all decisions to be made. A game more about the discovery of one's self as well as potentially *yourself*. Appearance too should be something that's ultimately picked up on the way, everything from build, outward appearance, even hair. (3/7)
Say, you start out as a basic machine, a faceless blank automaton, no name, gender, anything, you don't get to choose, you're nothing, not yet anyway. What if as the plot develops you get to define it via your actions, interactions, and various other choices? (2/7)
As much as i *love* a game with a good character creator suite. I wouldn't mind seeing one without, but also not a predefined character. So many games have your stats as the blank slate but what if you were nigh literally a blank slate? Hear me out on this one, might take a bit. (1/7)

I daresay thanks to some QOL, Starfield has grown on me somewhat.
it's a soap opera where the writers are on all manner of drugs as are the actors. any comedy is purely unintentional.
one notable omission in Starfield is that of music.. or rather "radio" there's plenty of the ambient stuff but nothing to say, play on your ship to fit whatever vibe you have going. woulda been plenty of room for everything from synthwave to country twangs.

More Starfield: the landmarks are all *good and fine*. but missed opportunity there to find something other than a snowglobe, small stories to tell could've been made here, places to explore, etc. Also it just feels weird to just have these singular landmarks y'know?

i think overall: Todd needed to see what other space games were doing, X series, Star Citizen (for what it's worth, it's still ambitious), and of course, No Man's Sky. i think that would've influenced things for the better in some direction. Yes, Todd needs to play video games. :B
exactly, right now i'm playing it again because i've got burnout from a lot of other games and Starfield's ironically not very spoon intense as far as RPG's go.. so it's good to just switch off for the most part. That said: soooo many missed opportunities. Amusingly: not even a fallout ref.
Yes i'm well aware of the mods that add player homes or return it to lush, verdant life... i feel like that's pretty "low effort" on the modding scale of things, and that nobody has considered putting more abandoned old earth shit there. Golden opportunities for environmental storytelling, there.

Look, there's a lot one could criticise about the game, i'm not gonna defend it for its faults, but at the same time i'm like: "here's a few things that may fill it out and improve the overall experience based on its inherent mechanics"
Actually, while i'm still on it, *another* way to lean into that whole 'Unity' thing that Starfield has got going for it would be to have more than one opening prologue, instead of the one you could have like, five to begin with, all randomly selected when a fresh game is started.
Once you break away from the skywalkers and jedi though, it frees up the setting, not relying on lynchpin facets helps open up for story and thematic changes, Andor being a prime example there. In Fallout's case, the only facet was vault 13, and even then that stood alone well.
i think Fallout's strength is that it's a fairly loose canon, like you have the universe canon itself, but each game is a self contained story, as is the TV show. It's all a tale of the wastelands.
