8/17/73: Nonviolent vineyard striker Juan De La Cruz, 60, was shot & killed on a UFW picket line near Arvin, CA by a strikebreaker firing from a passing pickup truck. The UFW named our retirement fund, which pays pensions to retired UFW members the Juan De La Cruz Pension Plan.

8/15/73: UFW honors Nagi Daifallah, 24 yr old grape striker from Yemen who was brutally clubbed to death by a Kern Co. sheriff's deputy in the farm town of Lamont, CA during the UFW's '73 grape strike. Nagi was the 2nd UFW martyr who lost their lives during union strikes.

NYs Wafler Farms workers voted for the UFW in 2022 but still don't have a contract. In Feb, an arbitrator ruled for a 2-yr contract. Wafler won't implement it so we're going to court again. Workers will deliver a petition to tell Wafler they won't give up. act.seiu.org/a/waflerpeti...

"Juan" harvests peaches in CAs SJ Valley. "It's HOT during the short peak season and it's hard to keep up the pace needed to make extra money. We climb a 14ft ladder. Our full bag weighs 40 lbs. We run to the crate and back to start again. We earn $30 per 900lb crate." #WeFeedYou

This is what "Pepe's" hands looks like after harvesting tomatos all day. He has the option of wearing gloves, but they slow him down. When you're working piece rate you can't afford to be slowed down. He needs to make every penny he can during the peak season. #WeFeedYou
