Spent the week with relatives at Okanagan Lake. It was crowded but fun. A family of 3 couldn’t find a spot on the beach so we gave up some of our loungers and invited them to sit next to us. Very nice couple with super polite boy. A few hours later my niece lost her glasses in the lake. /1

Normally there might be economic pressure on Trump but the U.S. economy is in an accelerated economic bubble of AI investment and typical pressures -- such as a financial market tangentially attached to reality -- don't exist.
I get that folks want to feel good and see world leaders lash out at Trump, but it won't accomplish much unless it's in tandem with other countries -- and it's sort of pointless when the U.S. doesn't seem interested or capable of saving itself.
I get that Canadians are frustrated, but what' the alternative? Carney will never say it, but they'll probably want to try to slow roll this until either A) there is enough economic pressure on Trump to cave or B) America's vestigial democratic impulses pulse back to life (26 midterms).
The uncomfortable place we're in is that ultimately if America doesn't want to save itself, there is nothing we can do to quickly pivot from our economic/security reliance on the U.S. The options seem to be either we slow down our collapse or put the elbows up and make a last stand.

I doubt the scale matters here where we waste water on lawns and washing car(s); however, in the global south, they are scaling potable water extraction and providing negligible value to residents because A) nobody works in the facilities once built, and B) the govts create tax-free zones
