These people don't get it. We in the West all want peace, but we also want justice. And justice is that Russia leaves Ukraine and respects the UN Charter and respects the treaties it signed with Ukraine and other nations.

The violation of these treaties by Russia also shows that Ukraine needs effective guarantees against Russian aggression. NATO or equivalent guarantees are the only option.

A negotiator should insist that Russia's primary goal (as they claim) does not necessitate annexations and can be monitored by the UN. This would turn the pretexts for war into a negotiating trap for Russia.
