I did mistake Septa for Amtrak. But you are right, politicians in DC and in State Capitols have infrastructure control. Infrastructure only gets attention when the trains crash or derail, bridges or highways collapse. Then these politicians point fingers at everyone but themselves.
New rail line because the federal $$$ came from Obama's presidency. That line would have gone across FL. Thru Disney to St. Petersburg. Gov. Rick Scott could have increased revenue into his state by tourists and provide residents better rail service to get to work, but no.
I should have said Amtrak, instead of Septa. Septa does serve the city well, but it is a dinosaur. It only works in the city, outlying communities, not so much. There is too much congestion on the roads. Service needs to be expanded. In 2010 red states down thru FL. Refused to increase Amtrak...
I'm not talking about bus lines. I've spent thousands of hours in Septa transportation. It's good. But to spend 2 or more hours to get from bus to subway to bus to train from one part of the city to another is exhausting. You're right, transit $ should be increased but we should know the options.
