I lived in Nashua for 20+ years. The southern cities almost always go blue. But you're right; stray not far out of the cities in any direction and you're in old-school GOP territory.
A lot of old school Repubs here didn't like Trump but refused to vote for Kamala. That's how we wound up with Kelly the Trump Fluffer but winning votes for Kamala from the southern part of the state, which consists largely of Mass. transplants.
