william-patton.bsky.social (@william-patton.bsky.social) reply parent
And like the phrase he used while de-contextualised is violent but the intent taken at face value while vile isn't really violent- like he's saying punch in the balls to make a point about his views on trans people not literally about punching people in the balls.

So hold up- anyone who says they want to 'punch someone in the balls' online can get 4 policeman arresting them? I think the guy's a whacky douchebag but this seems a little bit otp.

People generally accept adaption as the course ahead. But a hot house earth is an absolute extinction level event. In short I think it could be way worse than the currently farcical talks of 1.5-2.
william-patton.bsky.social (@william-patton.bsky.social) reply parent
And yet because of scientific uncertainty in mapping these dynamical systems this is never included in the models presented to the public. Like I say it was only in the last IPCC report that high risk scenarios were really even given attention.
william-patton.bsky.social (@william-patton.bsky.social) reply parent
Happens when there's a simultaneous Amazon collapse, nitrification of ocean, mass methane release etc. This is not an impossible scenario to occur within 100 years and would certainly lead to a hot house earth. The last time the earth had similar conditions it 14 degrees above what it is now.

To be clear I totally agree with you. But I won't be surprised if by 2100 it got to way way over any temperature currently predicted by mainstream science simply because they don't know what
william-patton.bsky.social (@william-patton.bsky.social) reply parent
The IPCC still largely plays down the most dangerous thing about climate change. Because it seems like up until this point temperature projection has been correctly predicted based of the co2 ppm etc. But the real scary part is the planetary dynamics between feedback.
william-patton.bsky.social (@william-patton.bsky.social) reply parent
While in general I completely agree. I actually think(and I might be wrong here and is a bit of a vibes based take) that the climate science has really failed when it comes to our understanding of feedback loops and the subsequent importance of conveying this aspect of climate change to the public.

Yes but not because it's being induced by people. And generally at much less rapid pace. But you're right it's changing and we will adapt because the previous for 4/5 mass extinctions caused by climate change give strong precedent that change is nothing to worry about.
