Forgot to mention Alentejo, a region that matches Belgium in area, that we created specifically to make this transition smooth.
wisevis (@wisevis.com) reply parent
I mean, look at them: an almost perfect rectangle, portrait, a perfect 2.5:1 aspect ratio, almost aligned in area with metric best practices (90000 square km). While Belgium... puff.
wisevis (@wisevis.com)
Great news! Portugal is replacing Belgium as a reference for areas! This is like moving from imperial to metric!

Are you in a different time zone? It's a pleasure to see you in the morning :) I find it a bit strange that Dollar Street is not well known in the #datavis communities.

Designing for the specific medium. I feel that often the result is a silly infographic with a couple of data points with heavy makeup, and that something else is possible. (I'm venting about the Eurostat X account...)

#datavis for social media is hard. Or perhaps I'm old and grumpy.

Whenever I go for a group hike I hope it's just us, people that stare at computers, and not botanists or geologists discovering and blablabla'ing about the wonders around us that the other people can't notice. We try to play the game and point at something, and they are like, "nah, that's just...".

The nuclear button will be transferred to AI soon, so I don't think we as a species have to worry with a 500.000-year problem.
wisevis (@wisevis.com) reply parent
I know, just find it funny the "AI will replace everything in three years" vs. "it takes 15 years to build a new nuclear plant". I think this can't be stopped anymore, so it either crashes (hopefully soon) or we have to use all our resources to feed the beast.
wisevis (@wisevis.com) reply parent
Two interesting things to factor in: it takes many years to build a new nuclear plant. Also, nuclear tends to be more expensive than renewables.
