It’s also really obvious? Just…on a personal level all of his decisions seem so obvious. It requires a lot of pundit or factional warfare brain to ignore that.

There are so many takes on Zohran but the story is really simple. He’s very positive and it’s clear he wants to build bridges and help people. He doesn’t want to settle factional scores, he doesn’t want the glorious revolution. Just accomplishing good things for constituents.

My statement on @nadler.house.gov’s decision not to seek re-election next year.

“For more than thirty years, when New Yorkers needed a champion, we have turned to Jerry Nadler—and he has delivered for us time and again. Jerry stood alongside gay and trans Americans when it was politically unpopular, voted with courage—not calculus—against the Iraq War and the Patriot Act, stood steadfast alongside the first responders and families sickened after 9/11, and led efforts to hold a lawless Trump administration accountable. Few leaders possess his record of principled progressivism, and fewer can claim to have made such an enduring impact on the fabric of our city. Congress will be worse off without his leadership, but our democracy will be better for the selflessness that has defined a legendary career.”

It’s hard to explain how much respect I have for Nadler here. He is not only putting his own interests behind those of the country and his constituents, but he’s accepting that a thing he believed was wrong…and doing something about it.

It’s frustrating that the internet vision of liberals thinks this interaction would be an unforgivable slight but the actual reality is this is a relatable and funny experience of people who want to be kind to others.

This linked post is a great example of this phenomenon. Every part is this is absolutely true. How is it difficult to criticize the liars doing it? I think it's all the same dynamic. To criticize the incorrect understanding of the world would be to criticize the people who hold it - so no one does

This realization unlocks so much of politics - I've always known it about the right ("virtue signaling" is an insane phrase that could only be created by sociopaths). But clearly it's true of much of the center as well that had mostly aesthetic complaints about Trump.

For whatever reason left-of-center politicians refuse to hit the same "my opponents are just wrong and here's why" button that conservatives pound constantly. Maybe the "deplorables" thing scared them? But it's not sustainable for all these national conversations to only criticize the left.

This is a truly wild thing to write in the period in which conservatives elected Donald Trump:

The second type of information to which liberals and conservatives may respond differently is toxic content— defined as harmful, hostile, or aggressive language. It is assumed that conservatives have a relatively greater need for order and place greater value on tradition than do liberals (25). Toxicity violates social norms (26) and thus counters convention, order, and tradition. Along

1. Incredible reaction. 2. I like this as a content idea, and even better if they keep recruiting people like this who will make bad ideas look bad.

I mean I’m sure this is rhetorical but it’s a combination of a) the belief that politics is a science that can be run by data (this is the people pushing it), ignoring persuasion and even change over time and b) it’s an excuse not to do anything scary, which Dem electeds love.

It’s one of those things where I can’t tell people how I really feel about it before they watch because it’s just too much pressure on it.

It’s really good. I was way close to their age the first time I watched it and, by comparison, had my life together. Couldn’t get past being mad at them for bad decisions. With some time it’s clear I was being an asshole and some distance let me see the characters with less judgment.

On one hand, totally agree. Journalists can do better. But this is such a striking example of "what we do here." The core issue is the US has guns everywhere and the GOP thinks dead children are an acceptable price to pay. But we know they won't listen so we yell at the people who might.

Her brain is just broken. I don't think there's any amount of analysis that's going to tell you why she does the things she does, including strident (but not consistent?) mask obsession, free posts about products she calls ads, living in a 90 degree apartment...it's all nuts.

What did you possibly think you were telling me here that I didn't know?

I was in Tanzania in July and was struck by how much the solar advancements are going to transform the country. It's kind of the same thing that happened with their phone service - most of the country just skipped over landlines and has cell phones. A solar microgrid can be very practical.

Like the Jeffries statement, this bugs me because it makes it sound like the problem is injustice toward one person (or the group they represent). But this is much bigger than that! It's about the economic effects for everyone of the President controlling the Fed - illegally.

You are more optimistic than I am. There are millions of "COVID is just a cold" people out there after 1.4 million deaths.
