I absolutely love that the focus is on political parties instead of the workers who actually carried us through the pandemic. It's such an American take on Labor Day! The lesson we didn't learn is that if labor stops working, society collapses. If managers stop working, no one even notices.
I don't get into those arguments much at all now (used to, on Twitter), but I never reframed. Tried to assume they were smart enough for "You're wrong, here's the evidence."
And we know from Bob Woodward's reporting that Trump's own understanding of the danger was pretty clear (after phone call with Xi) even as he continued publicly to minimize it.
When *you* started hearing it. I can assure you that, in the swamps, the time between the virus becoming known and the time of deranged conspiracy theories blaming Dems for all of it was approximately zero seconds.
*Everyone* knows that had Republicans been able to block all public health policies & let COVID-19 rip like 'herd immunity' freaks, and it killed & disabled *millions more* elderly, ppl w/conditions like diabetes or obesity, Blacks & Latinos, they would pay ZERO price. Certainly not from the press.
The criticisms are not in good faith but the less informed (not stupid, just busy with other stuff) who believe the criticisms shouldn't be told they're stupid. That's who we're trying to respond to, and not just because they may be voters.
At every single second, they worked their hardest to destroy trust, to foment doubt & anger & resentment, to *prevent* solidarity. And those lies mattered. The vaccine skepticism deliberately spread by the right led to 100s of 1000s of preventable deaths. Again: *they caused mass death*.
But the entire Dem professional establishment was desperately *trying* to do the right thing & be responsible. Contrast: immediately upon the arrival of the virus, the right started spreading insane conspiracy theories, attacking public health officials, & refusing to act in solidarity.

Trump on RFK Jr., the CDC, and vaccines (a translation). He seems to be saying that he was shown data about COVID19 vaccines being safe and effective, but that the pharma companies didn’t show those amazing data to anyone else, like RFK Jr. He thinks this is why there is a “mess” at CDC.

He demands that Pfizer and other companies show their vaccine data (which he calls drugs) to the CDC to show them how good they are. What does this tell us? That the outrage against RFK Jr. is having an effect and we need to push even harder to force this wedge.

It is worth noting though that even as Erickson insists his vulnerable cancer patient loved one should be able to get the vaccine, he implicitly agrees with RFK Jr's HHS denying the vaccine to anyone who isn't at extremely heightened risk. And Erickson has a history of COVID vaccine fearmongering.
