If I were editing a column about Charlie Kirk’s political genius, I would tell the writer he needed to quote Kirk’s actual political beliefs. If the writer responded that doing so would weaken or distract from his argument, it’d be a pretty good sign that the column was not ready for prime time.

Okay, so I'm seeing some confusion in response to this post. I am not criticizing DS2. It's good. I like DS2. I'm saying I think that 2 feels like a wildly different experience to 1, 3, BB, etc... for many reasons, and that Silksong just feels like Hollow Knight, but more (and better).
Sure, but it doesn't feel like 1's movement but better. It feels different. That's not a criticism. DS2 deliberately changed how i-frames work, and where you look and where you attack are two different things. This is so different some people (my big Souls buddy) never got used to the change.

I'm also gripped by the story and setting in a way HK never did. Hornet having a voice and presence in the game, beyond amnesiac that people talk at, has made interactions with the NPCs so much more enjoyable. I don't have to guess at what she's feeling.
Every time I've died (so far), it's felt like it's my fault. And I know it's not just a bias towards Hornet's moveset, because I already have the Wanderer's Crest, and it feels much more responsive than the combat in HK. I love it. It's a wonderful game.
So far, Silksong is the game I wished Hollow Knight was. It's all the vibes, beauty, and originality, but with a movement and combat flow that doesn't make me want to punch a wall. It's buttery smooth in all the right ways, and I've yet to feel like I'm dying because the game is fighting me.

Completely unfair comparison. The movement and combat in DS2 feels (purposefully) like AIDS on toast. The movement in Silksong feels smooth and silky. Also, there's a crest in the early hours of Silksong that gives you Hollow Knight 1's combat style.
