I think you mean this one (... and that's quite a photographic memory you have) π

It's been all over the BBC local news. Almost no barn owls raising chicks across the South East. I had some hope for Elmley because they know their owls so well, but they confirmed the bad news in a recent newsletter βΉοΈ
Zooey (@zooey1.bsky.social) reply parent
This finally gives me a little hope...
Zooey (@zooey1.bsky.social) reply parent
I love those eyes! π
Zooey (@zooey1.bsky.social) reply parent
It's good to know that everywhere else is normal. Barn owls have had a terrible year, with my favourite reserve saying recently that no chicks have survived π’

Sorry - only just turned on the PC. Yes... it's a damselfly, a common blue. Dragonflies rest with their wings outstretched, while most damselflies rest with their wings folded back. The main exceptions are emerald and willow emerald. Demoiselles are essentially damselflies with coloured wings π

It's been such a bad year for bugs. This was the only thing to photograph along one of our local footpaths. A humble flesh fly. (I do love his foot though) #photography #macro

Don't feel like doing a repost that puts the murder video on the timeline yet again but do feel like repeating the point that the president just straight-up assassinated 11 people for supposedly doing something that wouldn't be a death-penalty crime if they were caught and convicted

That sounds peaceful π

Thank you. I'm never sure when taking candid photographs of children, but I try to be guided by common sense. I'm small and female, so I tend not to be noticed...

The FB people up North seem to be having a normal, or good year. We had the wettest end of winter ever, followed by a two month drought and then four heatwaves. I'm sure bugs will bounce back next year, but not so much if this happens every five years or so, which is what they are saying π
Zooey (@zooey1.bsky.social) reply parent
That's what I'm seeing on the FB UK insects group. This year I've seen no weevils, robberflies, great pied hoverflies, hornet hoverflies, burnet moths, flower crab spiders, javelin wasps, longhorn beetles, malachite beetles, orb weavers, mayflies or yellow dung flies. It's been the worst year ever π’
Zooey (@zooey1.bsky.social) reply parent
I adore all bugs π

I've only just heard the story, but once again, I have no more words. With no opportunity to get out with the camera at the moment, I just burst into tears throughout the day. It's all so wrong... π’

Zooey (@zooey1.bsky.social) reply parent
That's a great image! There were no burnets here at all about three years ago because of the previous hot summer. They did recover the following year, but 2025 seems to have done for everything apart from butterflies and bees. Here in the South East, we had a record-breaking drought...

Here he is! I had a common blue butterfly on my finger this morning. (We have llamas and goats and I poo-pick the fields daily). It's incredible how many bugs will take up the offer if you approach them the right way π
Zooey (@zooey1.bsky.social) reply parent
I love the burnet moths. This one took up the offer of a ride on my finger just after I took this photograph. He stayed put for about ten minutes π

I'll look out for them. I only saw the start of the violet black-legged robberflies here in mid-May and then the drought and heatwaves finished off all the bugs. I'm gutted. This photograph was from a couple of years ago π

I've seen Andrea Bocelli in concert several times and he's always reduced me to tears. One lady sitting next to me in Glasgow asked if I was OK. I tried to see him perform Tosca in Florence quite a few years ago, but it never happened. I love his voice π

I'm inclined to agree. I avoid doctors at all costs. Even broke a rib and never bothered. A few years ago I was diagnosed with asthma and had all sorts of pills and inhalers. Problem was, the steroids gave me terrible mouth ulcers. I weaned myself off everything and have been fine ever since π

I took the lens and D800 to Sigma when I had problems with that combination. The guy cleaned my camera and gave a good explanation why the long lenses have more focus issues with a faulty camera. I don't remember now, but it made sense at the time π

Just my 150-600mm, but my D800 had similar problems. I tried the contact cleaning tip, with no luck. I have a very good camera repair place close to home and they found internal corrosion, so I bought the D810. My long-suffering husband has just bought me a backup D810 with a shutter count of 690...

I may be quiet for a day or two. It's taken me ages to get out with the camera after losing Chai. I bit the bullet today and went to my favourite bird reserve... only to find that 99% of my images are out of focus. The camera clearly needs servicing, but I don't have a back up body π

I was very lucky with the timing. The sun was just about to disappear behind a hill, so I had to run and set up in record time π
