There's no actual laws that say how the Supreme Court has to behave. Our entire government is built on a foundation of traditions and courtesies and unwritten rules (which we learned from you, BTW). Even the written rules mostly just say "don't do this" but there's no consequences or penalties.

One possibility is that we have in fact ALREADY entered a New Dark Age — signs: none of this will be preserved, interest in history is collapsing, the barbarians are taking over, etc. — but that this fact is masked because the info-phenomenological experience of the moment is of hyperabundance.

You have a point with the uncanny valley stuff, but it can only do that by accident. A lot of machines can create body horror when they fail. I'd rate genAI failing to make a good picture of a human, similar to a grain thresher failing to keep the operator out of the hopper. Accidental body horror.
The Anarkitty (@anarkitty.bsky.social) reply parent
I know that's tongue in cheek, but AI isn't even the best at body horror. It accidentally creates some decent body horror, but it never looks like it was ever human to begin with. There's no soul, no emotion, no actual horror. Human artists still make the best body horror.

If they only trained their models on uncopyrighted material, or material that had fallen out of copyright, they would be completely in the clear. The LLM companies decided that wasn't enough training data and it was too much trouble to sort out copyrighted stuff, and they just scooped up everything
