An executive order will put his son in charge. The Supreme Court will regretfully stay the lower court ruling because, unfortunately, the governor of California does not have standing to sue, since they must show harm.

I thought it would be great to have a series with them bickering across the galaxy.

They derive their humor from mocking and insulting people. It's like a SNL skit crossed with Sex in the City. And Spock has three girlfriends. What is this nonsense? I think you're judging TOS on its worst and not its best.

You know that is not true. I was like you once. I thought it was the greatest movie ever. But I could not explain the ending, just as you can't now.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
Well critical in the larger sense. Why is this a good episode or a bad one? And the people who actually make it are more critical than the fans. This to me is a contradiction. A fan should be critical. Otherwise why are they a fan? But it seems like all these fan podcasts love everything.

It's possible that Captain Picard wanted to stay on the Borg ship with a representation of one of his old girlfriends.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
I don't understand why the fans aren't more critical. When you talk to some of the actors and showrunners, they are more critical of some of the shows than most of the fans.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
What was that ending about?
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
A lot of us find this so terrible because it comes on top of mocking Kirk and the memory of Gene Roddenberry and disrespecting nearly everything about TOS. They already had their Freaky Friday. They already mocked Kirk twice. Cartoons, Muppet shows, zombies, Pike spinning a pirate wheel, Muppets.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
TOS entered the chat: VANDERBERG: ... I'm afraid to tell you how much gold and platinum and rare earths we've uncovered. KIRK: I'm delighted to hear that, Chief. Once Mother Horta tells her kids what to look for, you people are going to be embarrassingly rich.

Not to mention Dabbo girls. It's funny because they dress sexy.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
Well, I wish it was treating the premise seriously, which is to ask what happens when humans become logical or too logical or like Vulcans? And instead you get an SNL skit. And the idea of making la'an a villain because of her genetic makeup is also kind of racist.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
They are an arrogant condescending people with a superiority complex? You don't think that sounds racist?
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
Now that I cannot argue with!
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
Well he has videos that can prove some of the claims that I was making. It mocks Vulcans in general, and is racist, and I don't think it's funny to do that. I don't know why other people do either. It's just a terrible thing they've done to Pike throughout the series.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
I meant Kirk, not Spock, but no matter. I think the show was largely his character arc. I don't know why they didn't write the TNG version of an episode once he learns they are humans the plot changes. And then it could really be about empathy instead of just them making the words.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
It's a field of study. It's called criticism. There's books written on it. Of course we are not being "overly" critical. We are being barely critical. It's just so easy when the writing is so bad, as I tried to argue earlier.

Make that 1700s. But I think if you're making 10 episodes a season in the middle of our current situation, and then yes, every episode should be a social message. Or a political one. Or something. Even a character to one that they were trying to get fails.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
Trelane's parents didn't know that humans were sentient, and so allowed them to be treated as pets by Trelane. Nor would Trelane be bothered by Korby being good looking, nor could he be a real cue because he thought humanity was in the 1800s and had to have a mirror to focus his power.

Have you watched nitpicking nerd?, Molly and the old man? I mean, how much time do you have? It mocks the memory of Gene Roddenberry. It mocks Vulcans as a whole group of people. It mocks Kirk they make him so bored. He doesn't know what day it is. Una putting her lipstick down her blouse?
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
I don't know why fans like this episode because it makes Spock so bored that he doesn't know what day it is, makes him reckless and indecisive, and be rude with crew and run off and play chess when danger is around. But they do. I don't know why.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
nitpickingnerd said it was the worst of the franchise. Was it funny when Una dropped her lipstick down her blouse? Is it funny that a beautiful woman falls in love with a short fat ugly man? Is it funny to blame someone's personality on their DNA?

I think Archer whining to T'Pol And not trusting her is a season-long 'arc'. It also turns out he was foolish and the ship needs to be more heavily armed. And later seasons they get a SWAT team and lots of fighting commences.

At face value, he improved. Relaxed, happy, confident, patient and recognized the pointlessness of fighting with his sister. I think he needed help. Accusing Starfleet of a crime without evidence is unethical, as is recording people without their knowledge. He seemed nervous, afraid, and immature.

Why did Starfleet not tell people the truth anyway? Come think of it.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
Your main problem is that Starfleet doesn't lie. And people would not suspect it to lie. So if they had imperfect information they would realize that. But you could use another planet to tell the story that you are describing. And it would be better than what we saw
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
There's two separate things going on. One is his initial claims. The other is his investigation of the current core episode. But he did not know the facts. His initial claims are not ever refuted.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
I think you wrote a better episode than what is actually shown. Beto made a bunch of claims without evidence. Then he witnessed the core episode. He initially may have been skeptical but why would he make up his mind without all the information? So that wouldn't make sense.

Here are the reservations: 1) the crew are a obeying orders they have suspicion are illegal. 2) Starfleet is bringing in a animal that might be tortured 3) Pike does not stop the mission when you hera tells him that she can communicate with the animal.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, that's my only point. That the documentary is irrelevant. The inner core of the episode as you describe it is fine - almost, anyway. It's like Caretaker, Devil in the dark, Encounter at Far point, Equinox.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
I think it's one of the great third season episodes. The Klingons are different from the greedy ones in Trouble with Tribbles. These are the proud Klingons of Tng, I think. And the female one reaches an understanding with Kirk.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
Actually maybe Beto does have a role because the writers did make the crew step over the line for some reason. But all of his other accusations are unsubstantiated and so unethical. Nonetheless, a Starfleet officer cannot follow a illegal order.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
It's contrived. It's like going "Is Starfleet foscist? Stay tuned till after the commercial break". Well they did save the big alien butterfly thing again so I guess they're okay.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
Unfortunately, that's impossible. As the guy from trekyards says, we wouldn't be seeing this documentary if that was the case. Also Beto never refutes it. Why would one example of one group of people doing the right thing refute all his claims? Or you could just say it was sloppily written...
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
Well if they mocked everyone it would have been fine. Mollie and the old man actually found a video of Kurtzman doing another show where he plays himself mocking himself. But in SNW they didn't mock, say, Uhura or Lucile Ball, or the writers or producers.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
Well that could have worked if it was one bad admiral doing something bad. That would have been a good episode. But you can't accuse Starfleet of being immoral, unless you're in the mirror universe or something. Mmnm...
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
Mocking Kirk and TOS is one thing but mocking William Shatner and the memory of Gene Roddenberry is terrible. And then you mock them by saying they have to go get brain cells. And in the next episode you destroy a guy's brain cells. It's as if they're as bad as the episode that they mocked.
annoyingliberal.bsky.social (@annoyingliberal.bsky.social) reply parent
I wonder if there's an exemption for a hollow suite versus a hollow deck? DS9 swore off them for like six seasons, I think in part because they didn't like TNG's. At first there they just used them as whore houses that Quark ran. Which is fitting in a way, I think.

In the last episode, didn't it make you sick when you start to see the video of the documentary, and it appeals to people's emotions with fancy fonts, cuts and lighting, as well as other imagery? And there's no facts or evidence? Wouldn't people of the future want to see evidence in a documentary?

She's trying to be funny, and therefore she is not. She slows the plot down to a crawl. Her stories are second rate romcom. She had one great episode in DS9. Half a life. Majel Barrett proves that she is the fine actor she's always been since The Cage.
