It’s baffling to me that so much of the U.S. (and the world) has decided that letting their kids get sick at school all the time (and spread illness to their parents and everyone else) is preferable to just … adequately cleaning indoor air

The maddening thing is that we know EXACTLY how to prevent this. Yes, kids should get vaccinated, test, stay home when sick, mask as much as possible. But even without any of that: Better ventilation and filtration in schools can MASSIVELY reduce viral spread, for all sorts of respiratory diseases.

Being clever enough to be a scientist is impressive enough on its own. Being able to explain science in a way that is approachable and entertaining is an entirely different skill (I’m talking Hawking, Nye, Sagan). But being able to to talk about science, and in doing so cause the reader to snort their coffee out of their nose in laughter is a skill reserved for a select few.
